Bishop Moore's Andrew Wade had never made it past the district tournament in basketball; however, he now can call himself a state champion. Wade, a senior who was recruited from the basketball team to play on the boys volleyball team this season, had five kills, and one dig to help the Hornets win its third FHSAA state championship since 2010 with a 22-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 victory over Archbishop McCarthy on Saturday at Pine Crest School. The two day meet saw Class 1A and 2A schools compete on Friday, with Class 3A and 4A schools hitting the track on Saturday. On Friday, Lake Placid's Quiahja Williams competed in the high jump and just missed medaling, as she finished ninth after clearing 5-feet, the same height as the eighth-place finisher, but she needed an additional attempt to clear the bar.
