    State baseball: Lead slips away late for Robinson

    Two outs were all that Robinson needed to beat Archbishop McCarthy and advance to the Class 5A state championship game once centerfielder Darius Autry made a diving grab for the first out, ending the eye-popping play with a somersault to get back on his feet. "After that first out, I knew it would be a dogfight to get the next two outs because the heart of their lineup was coming up," Autry said.

    The Mosley Dolphins will be south bound Wednesday, heading to Fort Myers and a second trip to the State Finals in three seasons. Mosley plays their 5A state semifinal early Friday afternoon against Citrus.

Head coach Todd Harless and his guys, coming off the 7-4 5A region final win at Baker Friday, are now making plans to travel to Fort Myers Wednesday in advance of their 5A state semifinal Friday afternoon against Citrus High School.

    Bishop Moore wins state boys volleyball title

    Bishop Moore's Andrew Wade had never made it past the district tournament in basketball; however, he now can call himself a state champion. Wade, a senior who was recruited from the basketball team to play on the boys volleyball team this season, had five kills, and one dig to help the Hornets win its third FHSAA state championship since 2010 with a 22-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 victory over Archbishop McCarthy on Saturday at Pine Crest School.

    Track athletes give solid showings

    The two day meet saw Class 1A and 2A schools compete on Friday, with Class 3A and 4A schools hitting the track on Saturday. On Friday, Lake Placid's Quiahja Williams competed in the high jump and just missed medaling, as she finished ninth after clearing 5-feet, the same height as the eighth-place finisher, but she needed an additional attempt to clear the bar.
