    Wildkits Defeated DePaul Prep in Tough Tourney

    Evanston High School boys basketball team showed just the kind of true grit in the fourth quarter that head coach Mike Ellis was looking for Tuesday night. The Wildkits recorded 5 straight stops on defense in the final minutes and DePaul Prep's Raequan Williams missed a short baseline jumper at the buzzer, allowing Evanston to earn a 45-43 victory over the host team in the second round of the "Battle of the Bridge" Thanksgiving tournament.

    Wildkits Romp Westinghouse 67-40

    A strong start --- and an even better finish --- powered Evanston's basketball team to a season-opening 67-40 romp over Chicago Westinghouse Monday in the first round of the Battle of the Bridge Thanksgiving Tournament at DePaul Prep. Evanston broke out to an 18-4 first quarter advantage, then put the Warriors away in the final period by outscoring them 22-6.

In swimming, the swimming world, the equivalent phrase is "suited, shaved and tapered," and those there words have been used a lot this week as the state's fastest girls swimmers prepare for this weekend's state meet in Evanston.

    Girls basketball: Richardson helps Stevenson win opener

    Sophomore point guard Ashley Richardson scored a career-high 19 points, and Stevenson's girls basketball team opened its season with a come-from-behind, 44-32 win over Evanston at Schaumburg on Tuesday night. Junior guard Janine Fajardo added 12 points for Stevenson, which outscored the Wildkits 16-0 in the fourth quarter.

    Evanston High Swimmers Collins and Woods Break Recor...

    Evanston Township High School juniors Honore Collins and Ana Woods took turns knocking former state champion Julia Quinn out of the record book with victories at the Niles North Sectional qualifying meet. Collins captured top honors in the 200-yard individual medley and Woods won the 100-yard breaststroke, providing the highlights as the Wildkits earned 7 individual qualifying berths and also advanced all three relay teams to next week's Illinois High School Association state meet at Evanston's Burton Aquatic Center.
