    The Sac-Joaquin Section Division II-III finals were held on Friday at Bella Vista High in Fair Oaks and many local track stars moved on to the Masters meet next week at Elk Grove High. Devanique Brown of Vallejo High won the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.43 seconds, just ahead of second-place finisher Joy Johnson from Cosumnes Oaks.

    Baseball: Oak Ridge exits D-I playoffs

    For half an inning, the Oak Ridge High baseball team was in the driver's seat of Thursday's Sac-Joaquin Section Division I North losers' bracket against Elk Grove at Union Stadium on the Sacramento City College campus. As Trojan teammate Logan Denholm stood on first base after hitting a high-flying base hit into right field in the bottom of the fourth inning, Jake Hathaway smoked a fastball over the left-field fence for a two-run home run and a 2-0 lead.

    Vacaville High School's Brandi French and Nia Vance grabbed the first Sac-Joaquin Section track and field titles among local competitors on Wednesday night. French won the girls shot put during day one of the Division I meet at Elk Grove.

    Elk Grove >> Not long after the Woodland Wolves secured a spot in the Division IV Sac-Joaquin Section girls soccer championship game, some of the players expressed concern about the physical state of the squad. Specifically, Woodland has played much of the second half of the season without starting midfielder Brianna Hernandez after she broke a bone in her leg.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the top of the first inning of their Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoff opener, then traded shots with Pleasant Grove of Elk Grove before finishing with a 10-5 victory at the Sacramento Softball Complex.
