Herd has too much for Devil softballers

Though the final score was 10-0, Davis High softball coach Art Guerra said his girls made the game seem a lot closer than that as they took on Elk Grove, the top team in the Sac-Joaquin Section. The powerful Thundering Herd put the contest out of reach with five runs in the fifth inning, using eight hits in the frame.

DHS girls win big, now look ahead to Franklin

While it will go down in the record books as an official game, for all intents and purposes, Davis High's 6-0 win over the Sheldon girls soccer team on Wednesday at Yudin Field was nothing but a warm-up for the biggest match of the season. Because the Blue Devils have beaten the other three of their four remaining opponents by a combine score of 29-1 already this spring, Monday's home contest against Franklin will essentially decide the Delta League title.

Sports briefs: Blue Devil girls pepper the Elk Grove...

Coming off of a blowout win over Monterey Trail on Monday, Davis High girls soccer coach Sara Stone pointed to Wednesday's road match on the turf at Elk Grove as a much better test of where the Blue Devils are. Adjusting beautifully to the turf field - which is similar to ones they will face late in the section playoffs - DHS created good opportunities, then finished them for a 7-0 win over the Thundering Herd.

Davis girls kick Mustangs to the curb

It wasn't a competitive game - not by a longshot - but, for the Davis High girls soccer team, just playing against opponents in different colored jerseys was a big relief. Due to the teams in its league having spring break last week, the Blue Devils took the field for an actual match Monday for the first time since March 25. DHS took full advantage, scoring nine goals in the first half to eventually blow out host Monterey Trail, 13-0.

Franklin finds a way past DHS on the diamond

When the top teams in the Delta League - which are more often than not the best teams in the entire Sac-Joaquin Section - match up, it seems like observers can apply nearly every sports clichA . On Monday, with Franklin pulling off a 5-4 win over visiting Davis High, it was "it ain't over 'till the fat lady sings."
