    West Chicago fends off Larkin rally

    It was West Chicago's ball with 8 minutes left and the game tied at 20-20 after Larkin had scored on its last two possessions. West Chicago had fumbled the ball away its last time on offense and needed a spark to get its attack going again.

    Huntley, Westminster post wins

    Huntley's boys soccer team came back from a goal deficit at the half in nonconference action to beat Vernon Hills 2-1 as Allesandro Vergara and Allan Barrientos scored goals in the final 30 minutes for the Red Raiders Friday. Barrientos scorched the game-winner in the 77th minute while Max Walsh and Michael Zembrzuski came away with assists.

    Geneva has its way with Elgin

    Running back Justin Taormina rushed for 3 touchdowns and wideout Pace Temple caught 3 touchdown passes -- all in the first half -- to make visiting Elgin disappear rather quickly Friday night and trigger a 56-6 Upstate Eight River blowout. When Justin Nebel added a 5-yard touchdown run with 2:08 left in the first half, Geneva enjoyed a 49-0 lead that set the slaughter-rule running clock in motion in the second half and allowed several reserves to see action.

    Boys soccer: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, Sept. 25

    Cary-Grove 3, Von Steuben 0: The Trojans made it 10-straight on the season behind goals from Luis Lemus, Mike Arenberg and Max Green in nonconference action. Esteban Angeles had 2 assists while Israel Lopez registered 1 and Ethan Csoka and Eric Fisher split time in goal for the team's sixth shutout of the season.

    The Warriors are 4-0 heading into Saturday's football game against Riverside-Brookfield at Performance Trust Field in West Chicago. It's the program's West Division debut in the Metro Suburban Conference.

    St. Edward back blasts past IC Catholic

    He sprinted, veered, shaked and baked and bounced 30 times for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns, and at safety he added an interception. It all pointed to a 35-28 Green Wave win over Metro Suburban Conference crossover rival IC Catholic Prep on Saturday at Lewis Stadium in Elmhurst.

    Streamwood holds off Larkin

    The Larkin football team rallied for 3 second-half touchdowns and dominated the final two quarters overall, but Streamwood had just enough left in the tank defensively to hold off the Royals for a 27-21 Upstate Eight River victory at Memorial Field on Friday. The Sabres stopped Larkin on downs at the Streamwood 20-yard line with 5:14 to play.

    Newark 10, Elgin Academy 1: A big first half for Newark stopped the Hilltoppers before they could get going. Elliot Wittmeyer scored on a pass from Karan Gowda in the first half for Elgin Academy.
