    Pairings: Tuesday -- Game 1) Westminster Christian vs. St. Francis de Sales , 7 p.m.; Wednesday -- Game 2) Rockford Christian Life vs. Luther North-Ida Crown winner, 7 p.m.; Friday -- Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2 for the sectional title, 7 p.m. Outlook: Back in the sectional round for the second straight season, the Warriors hope to advance beyond a semifinal this time. To do so, they'll have to beat the team from Westminster Christian coach Bruce Firchau's boyhood neighborhood on Chicago's south side.

    Westminster ousts defending 1A champ Mooseheart

    The Warriors erased an 8-point, third-quarter deficit against defending Class 1A state champion Mooseheart, again fell behind, then rallied from 8 points down in the final six minutes to prevail 53-50 in the Class 1A Mooseheart regional title game. "They're the defending state champs and it's on their floor, so it's incredible," said Westminster Christian senior Sam Carani, who matched junior teammate Dillon Rejman with 17 points.

    South Elgin holds off Bartlett

    The regular season finale at South Elgin between the host Storm and visiting Bartlett had a postseason atmosphere as the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division boys basketball rivals squared off for the second time this season on Friday. After Bartlett ran away with a 75-53 home win earlier this month, the rematch remained tight right to the end.

    No repeat run in store for Mooseheart boys basketball

    MOOSEHEART – Free-throw shooting and setting the right defense were the keys in Westminster Christian's 53-50 victory over Mooseheart in Friday's IHSA Class 1A Mooseheart Regional championship game. With two minutes to play and trailing by two, the Ramblers couldn't convert on four free-throw attempts while the Warriors connected on six straight to seal the win.

    Larkin makes a statement with win over Geneva

    Two-time defending Upstate Eight River champion Larkin was eliminated from three-peat contention long ago, but that didn't keep the Royals from having a say in which team inherits their crown. Larkin forced 18 turnovers and scored regularly in transition to knock off Geneva 57-51 in the UEC River finale for both teams in Elgin on Wednesday.

    ELGIN – It was slow going for the St. Charles East boys basketball team on Wednesday night both on and off the court. It took the team bus an hour to get to Elgin because of the weather.

    Geneva loss creates tie for UEC River title

    Larkin snapped Geneva's 16-game winning streak on Wednesday as the Vikings dropped their regular season finale, 57-51. Geneva has five days to regroup for Tuesday's home, regional semifinal matchup against either DeKalb or Batavia.

    Larkin holds off Batavia

    Batavia got off to a quick start against Upstate Eight River Conference rival Larkin but the Royals answered with run of their own to take the lead and, once they took the lead, they never relinquished it. The Bulldogs battled all night chasing the Royals but Larkin was up to the task every time and eventually came away with the 59-50 victory.

    Batavia boys basketball can't get over hump against ...

    BATAVIA – Victory appeared to be within the Batavia boys basketball team's reach Friday night, but the Bulldogs couldn't stop the Larkin Royals, falling to the visitors on senior night, 59-50, in an Upstate Eight Conference River matchup. Every time the Bulldogs would get within a few points and start to go on a run, Larkin was able to quickly put a stop to it.

    GENEVA – The Geneva boys basketball team defeated the Elgin Maroons on senior night Friday, and one of those Vikings seniors left a deep footprint on program history. Nate Navigato led the way for the Vikings with 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists, all in the first half of the Vikings' 54-44 Upstate Eight Conference River win.

    St. Edward 67, Westmont 33: In nonconference action, the Green Wave bounced back from Tuesday's loss to Riverside-Brookfield with a resounding win behind Nick Duffy's game-high 21 points. Joe French hit two 3-pointers en route to 12 points and both Danny Favela and Gino Domel each chipped in 8. Christian Liberty 55, Elgin Academy 37: The Hilltoppers dropped a nonconference loss despite Armin Ward's 12 points and Jordan Hare's 10.
