    Lions, Hawks earn region wins; GHSA playoffs set

    Trinity and The Heritage School might be GISA Region 1-AAA rivals, but Friday night they had something in common by routing region opponents by the 10-run mercy rule in wins that ended in the fifth inning. The county rivals now prepare for the last of two meetings during the regular season when Trinty travels to Heritage on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Trinity Christian swept Young Americans 14-2 and 12-2 Friday, while Heritage rolled to a 14-0 win over Griffin Christian.

    Lady Hawks finish as 1-AAA runner-up

    The Heritage School girls soccer team is headed back to the GISA state tournament again after finishing second in Region 1-AAA following a 3-1 loss to Holy Spirit on Wednesday at home. Jaina Eckert gave the Lady Hawks a 1-0 lead at the 15-minute mark on a goal off a free kick.

    Lions run away with 1-AAA championship

    Trinity Christian's boys track team dominated Tuesday's Region 1-AAA championships on Tuesday at Tara Stadium, scoring 232 points to more than double its next closest competitor. The Lions won 10 of 16 events and had a second place finisher in meet's other six events while racking up a 105-point victory over seven schools in competition while showcasing its overall depth.

    Hawks, Lions win region games

    The Heritage Hawks kept a perfect record in GISA Region 1-AAA intact with a 12-2 victory in six innings on Monday over Weber School at home, while Trinity Christian picked up region wins over Loganville Christian and Griffin Christian on Monday and Tuesday. Leading just 4-2 after four innings, Heritage broke the game open with four-run rallies in both the fifth and sixth innings.

    Heritage School, Trinity gear up for region meet

    Heavy rains factored in Trinity Christian's Senior Night Finale meet, but both host squads, as well as teams from The Heritage School got an opportunity to compete in a limited amount of running events while preparing for Tuesday's GISA Region 1-AAA Championships. The region meet will be held at Tara Stadium in Clayton, with Trinity's new track set to take over as meet host in 2016 once the school adds a pole vault pit area.

    Lions get better of Hawks in key showdown

    Cole Jones was impressive again in goal for The Heritage School's boys soccer team on Tuesday at Trinity Christian. But in a key Region 1-AAA showdown, Trinity senior standout Keith Lyons was just a step better in a 1-0 victory on Senior Night for the Lions en route to evening up the regular season series between the county rivals and putting the Hawks on the brink of playoff elimination.

    Hawks singles players win Region Tournament

    Newnan Times-Herald Sports Editor Hamza Khan defeated Heritage School teammate Chris Truong in a tiebreaker to determine this year's Region 1-AAA boys singles champion in tournament play on Tuesday. Khan rallied back after losing an opening-set tiebreaker to defeat Truong 6-7, 6-0, 10-7, with both Hawks standouts now moving on to represent Heritage at the GISA state level.

    Sophomore kept 'Groove' going for Lady Hawks

    Heritage School sophomore Kara Groover found the perfect way to top last year's Newnan Times-Herald "Small" County Girls Basketball Player of the Year honors namely by repeating the effort in a 2014-15 season that matched, and in other cases bettered, last year's trip to the GISA Final Four. This year's Small County girls team could also be known as a "Sister Act," with two pairs of siblings among seven players that were recognized among Coweta's three private school girls' programs.
