    East Bay Athlete of the Week honorable mentions

    JOE DEMERS, College Park, baseball, Sr. -- DeMers threw his second no-hitter of the season to beat Concord 3-0 and complete a series sweep. He helped himself at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a solo home run, RBI double and RBI single.

    Two East Bay high school baseball players have made the rare feat look easy. College Park's Joe DeMers already has three no-hitters, including two in the past week, with San Ramon Valley's Joey Matulovich adding two of his own.

    Around The Horn: Saint Mary's High baseball team shu...

    The Saint Mary's High School baseball team received a combined five-hitter from Nick Ultsch and Ben Stanfield and teammate Andre Nnebe went 3 for 4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI as the Panthers defeated the Cougars 6-0 on April 17. Miles Williams drove in two runs for Saint Mary's. Liam Knowles was 2 for 2 at the plate for Albany.

    Around The Horn: Taylor Elliott signs on with SJSU

    Head-Royce School baseball pitcher Jacob Patterson-Kohout threw a one-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks as the visiting Jawhawks edged El Cerrito 1-0 in a nonleague game on April 15. Reid Gibbs scored the winning run in the third inning, as Head-Royce improved to 9-4 overall with the victory. Patterson-Kohout was also 2 for 3 with a double in a 4-3 victory over Athenian on April 14. Teammate Nico Hoerner was 3 for 3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in that game.

    Around the Horn: Foothill softball beats Granada

    The Foothill High softball team stayed hot with a 3-1 win over Granada on April 16, the Falcons' seventh straight win and third in a row to begin league play. Junior Megan Shackley slugged a solo home run in the first inning for Foothill, and Nalani Scates struck out five and scattered nine hits to improve to 11-2 on the season.

    San Ramon Valley beats Cal High in EBAL baseball thr...

    The San Ramon Valley High baseball team exploded for three runs in the top of the seventh inning Friday against host California, and the Wolves needed all three in a 5-4 East Bay Athletic League win. California's Jake Ackerman slammed a two-run triple with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but was left stranded as San Ramon Valley pitching ace Joey Matulovich got the final two outs for a complete-game victory.

    East Bay Athlete of the Week: Isabel Verlarde, Granada

    THE STAT LINE: Velarde belted a three-run home run to cap a dramatic five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning and give the Matadors a come-from-behind 8-5 EBAL win over Monte Vista. Velarde was 2 for 3 in that game and singled and scored a run in an 7-4 loss to Carondelet.

    EBAL baseball: Monte Vista rallies to beat Cal High

    Monte Vista High's baseball team won't soon forget the win that gave it sole possession of first place in the East Bay Athletic League. The Mustangs showed off their no-quit attitude, rallying back from two late deficits to stun surging California 8-7 in extra innings Wednesday in Danville.

    EBAL baseball isn't for the faint of heart

    Consider that the EBAL's eight teams were a combined 65-29 overall heading into the week: Not one team was worse than 7-5. "It's gonna be a meat grinder," Granada coach Corrigan Willis said of the league competition remaining.
