    NCS baseball: Amador Valley rallies to beat San Ramo...

    Andrew Crabill's single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in the winning run for Amador Valley High, capping a two-run rally in the inning for a 2-1 North Coast Section Division I quarterfinal win Friday over San Ramon Valley. Wolves starter Blake Harrison pitched about as well as a high schooler could, taking a two-hit shutout into the bottom of the seventh.

    The Northgate High boys swim team became California's first boys state swimming and diving champion. With 192 points, Northgate finished 59 points ahead of San Ramon Valley to become the California Interscholastic Federation state swimming and diving champions.

    East Bay Athlete of the Week honorable mentions

    ELIJAH LUCY, Emery, track and field, Sr. -- Lucy won the 200 meters in an NCS-leading time of 21.59 seconds, as well as winning the 400 and long jump at the NCS Class A championships. He also ran the second leg for Emery's third-place 400 relay team.

    Tri-Valley Around the Horn: SRV swimmers shine at state

    The San Ramon Valley High boys and girls swimming teams both placed in the top three in the inaugural CIF State Championships on May 23 in Clovis. The Wolves boys team finished second with 133 points, taking second in the 200-yard medley relay, fifth in the 200 freestyle relay and eighth in the 400 freestyle relay.

    CIF swimming: Northgate boys win state team champion...

    To say that East Bay athletes had a memorable experience at the inaugural California Interscholastic Federation state swimming and diving championships might be shortchanging the impressive results the region turned in Saturday. Forty-one swimmers or relay teams reached the medal stand at the Clovis Olympic Swim Complex, including four that finished first and five that placed second.

    An emotional San Ramon Valley High boys lacrosse team completed its mission with a 9-5 win over rival Monte Vista Friday night in the North Coast Section Division I championship game. The team had dedicated its season to its beloved former assistant coach Todd French, who died of cancer right before the season began.

    East Bay swimmers shine on state championship meet's...

    It was Bay Area domination on the first day of the inaugural California Interscholastic Federation state swimming and diving championships Friday. In the 41 2 hours needed to complete preliminary heats on a gray and comfortable afternoon and early evening at the Clovis Olympic Swim Complex, swimmers from this newspaper's greater coverage area put 98 out of a possible 176 swimmers or relay teams into Saturday's finals, including 13 top seeds in the 22-event program.

    Mustangs starting pitcher Noah Cort threw six innings of four-hit ball as the visiting Monte Vista High baseball team clinched a co-league title with a 5-1 victory over San Ramon Valley "It was big for us. We wanted this more than anything," said Cort, who allowed the game's first run, then retired 11 straight batters and 15 of the last 19 batters he faced.

    After losing in the semifinals three straight years, the Monte Vista High boys lacrosse team is headed back to the championship game. The Mustangs put on a defensive clinic Wednesday night to come away with a 12-2 win over visiting De La Salle in the North Coast Section Division I semifinals.

    EBAL track: Carondelet, Amador Valley win team titles

    Christina Chenault certainly made an impact on the East Bay Athletic League track and field championships Saturday at Amador Valley High. The senior won three girls individual events, in which she set two meet records, and ran a leg on a meet record-setting 400 relay team as Carondelet won the girls championship meet team title with 114 points.

    The Monte Vista High baseball team took a significant step toward earning its first East Bay Athletic League championship since 2005 with a tense 3-2 win over visiting De La Salle on Friday. The surging Mustangs moved one game ahead of the Spartans with two games remaining in the tough EBAL.
