    Christian Fuca made a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 2:45 left and San Ramon Valley held on to beat Chino Hills 79-71 in double overtime of the Division I boys state basketball championship Friday. Kyle Speckman and Drew Kunde also scored in the second overtime while Keith Smith added four free throws in the final 44 seconds to lift the Wolves to their first state title in three tries.

    Now the Wolves must keep their eye on the ball -- make that Chino Hills' Ball brothers -- in the state championship game at 8 p.m. Friday at Cal's Haas Pavilion. Heralded Lonzo Ball, a 6-foot-6 junior guard headed to UCLA, had 26 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and eight steals in Chino Hills' win over Centennial-Corona in the Southern California regional final.

    CHINO HILLS >> The Chino Hills boys basketball team had just polished off favored Corona Centennial in the Southern California Regional and coach Steve Baik sat at a podium in the front of a small press gathering. The fact that the Huskies have persevered and earned a spot opposite Northern Region champion San Ramon Valley in the Division I state championship game at UC Berkeley's Haas Pavilion is a testament to the team's resolve.

    Tri-Valley Around the Horn: Granada baseball beats Lodi

    Jared Beranis fired six strong innings as the Granada High baseball team beat Lodi 6-2 in nonleague action on March 21. Beranis got the pitching win, and was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored. Sophomore Zach Patterson was 1 for 3 with two RBI for the Matadors, who improved to 4-2.

    In his first year as head coach of the San Ramon Valley High boys basketball team, he's preparing his Wolves for the Division I state championship game. The Wolves will face Southern California champion Chino Hills at 8 p.m. on March 27 at Cal's Haas Pavilion, marking San Ramon Valley's first state final appearance since 1992.

The Wolves will get to play at Haas Pavilion after beating Woodcreek-Roseville 49-45 on Saturday in the CIF Division I Northern regional championship game in Sacramento's Sleep Train Arena.

    Cif Basketball: Centennial shut down after fast start

    Despite the night-and-day difference between the the first quarter and the rest of the game, the new CIF Southern California champion said it was simply a matter of stepping up its defense after a bit of an ear-chewing during a first-quarter time out. "We just needed to get back, get locked in, and just start getting after on defense," Chino Hills coach Steve Baik said.

    O'Dowd boys win NorCal Open Division title

    Bishop O'Dowd-Oakland boys basketball coach Lou Richie took a big sigh, then a sip of water and asked who was winning the Southern California Open Division final. Modesto Christian, the Bay Area beaters from the Sac-Joaquin Section, pushed the Dragons to the hilt, but the boys from Oakland had plenty to pull out a 56-47 victory in the NorCal Open Division final at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento on Saturday night.
