The Mustangs' Mallory Hromatko shot into the corner after a cross from Lindsay Rood about 30 seconds in, and the hosts prevailed 1-0 in the championship match of the Tri-Valley Classic Invitational division.

    The Alameda High School girls basketball team edged San Ramon Valley 46-44 in overtime to win the championship game of the Lady Hornets Invitational on Dec. 13. Maddy Lewis scored a game-high 21 points, including a trio of three-pointers, and teammate Lisa Bertholdt added 12 points in the victory. In a 45-39 semifinal victory over California on the same day, Lewis scored a team-high 16 points and Bertholdt added 15. The Oakland Tech High School boys basketball team dominated Antioch 51-23 to win the Mt.

    The balanced San Ramon Valley High girls basketball team took second place in the Lady Hornet Invitational on Dec. 13, and the California girls team placed third. The Wolves dropped a heartbreaker against host Alameda in the championship game 46-44 as six San Ramon Valley players had at least five points, led by guard Tia Kim and forward Megan Cavallo with eight apiece.

    Tri-Valley Classic: Before the final round of the Tri-Valley Classic boys soccer tournament, it was assured that Monte Vista High would be usurped as the tournament champions, with San Ramon Valley and Amador Valley the only teams with a mathematical chance to win it. And after Amador Valley and Freedom ended in a 2-2 draw, the Wolves were champions before they stepped on the field to face Ygnacio Valley.

    The San Ramon Valley High boys soccer team entered Wednesday night's Tri-Valley Classic in the driver's seat, and left it in even better shape after a 2-1 win over upstart Freedom. The win, coupled with losses by Amador Valley and Monte Vista, leaves the Wolves six points clear and firmly in control entering Saturday.
