    Senior second baseman/designated hitter Derek Danver collected four hits in a pair of weekend Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division doubleheaders against undefeated Mercyhurst to take the lead among Clarion hitters with a .320 average. Because of home field conditions at the Memorial Stadium Complex, the Golden Eagles traveled to the Mercyhurst Field Friday and were handed 13-2 and 5-4 setbacks by the Lakers, who were ranked third in the Atlantic Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

    Lady Tide Softball Looking to Return to Winning Ways

    The Curwensville Lady Tide girls softball team suffered its first losing season in 2014 after 10 straight years of .500 play or better, including two state titles . Curwensville did, however, make it to the District 9 AA Playoffs, beating Redbank Valley in the quarter-finals, 13-3, before losing to Moniteau in the semi-finals, 4-0.

    Lady Tide's Strickland Repeats as MVL, AML All-Star

    An outstanding senior season earned Ciara Strickland, Curwensville Area High School's all-time leading scorer, berths on the Moshannon Valley League and Allegheny Mountain League girls basketball all-star teams for the second year in a row. The senior guard poured in 526 points for a 21.9 average that was tops in District 9 and increased her four-year career total to 1,525 in 93 games.
