    Schenectady tops Troy

    Four Schenectady players finished in double figures as the Patriots routed Troy 84-70 Friday in a boys' nonleague basketball game in Schenectady. More boys' basketball: Kevin Huerter scored a career-high 35 points, including six 3-pointers, to help Shenendehowa record an 81-61 Suburban Council win over Columbia.

    Just after 6-foot junior point guard Jenna Giacone roared down the lane for a basket in the third quarter for the Bethlehem girls' basketball team Friday, the Eagles' raucous student section erupted in approval. Shenendehowa, the 2014 Section II Class AA champion, was not swept away by Bethlehem or the moment.

    Samson still has some unfulfilled goals

    Shenendehowa swimmer Julia Samson works on her breast stroke during practice on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 in Clifton Park, N.Y. Julia Samson's list of swimming accomplishments keeps growing, but one goal remains elusive and it may be just the motivation the area's best swimmer needs to get even better. The Shenendehowa star has been one Section II's elite swimmers since she burst on the scene in 2010 as a seventh-grader when she finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200 individual medley at sectionals.
