    The Castle Park High School boys volleyball team is apparently headed where no other Trojan team in the sport has gone before: the San Diego Section championship game. Castle Park defeated visiting Del Lago Academy 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 in Wednesday's Division IV semifinals to advance to Friday's championship game at Canyon Crest Academy.

    After the final out was recorded in Thursday's Metro-Pacific League baseball game at Hilltop High School, a loud hoot went up from the victorious team and with good reason. The host Lancers had just claimed their third consecutive league championship, second straight in the Metro-Pacific League.

    No. 2 Spartans take charge in shutting down Cavers

    The Chula Vista High School boys volleyball team left little doubt as to the identity of the best team on the court in Saturday's San Diego Section Division III quarterfinal-round playoff game against the visiting San Diego Cavers. The second-seeded Spartans took command from the start and took care of business in dealing the 10th-seeded Cavers a loss in straight sets.

    The all-weather track at Otay Ranch High School received a test Thursday when an afternoon cloudburst sent student-athletes scurrying for cover just prior to the start of the running events at this year's Mesa League and South Bay League championship finals. The rainstorm abated after a few minutes but, for safety concerns, all further field events were postponed, as were the two hurdles races.

    The Castle Park High School boys and Sweetwater High School girls track and field teams emerged with respective South Bay League dual meet championships in 2015. Both teams finished undefeated in league competition with victories on May 7. Castle Park defeated host San Ysidro, 75-47, to wrap up a perfect 6-0 dual meet record while Sweetwater sped past visiting Southwest to also finish 6-0 in league meets.

    The Eastlake-Otay Ranch dual meet May 7 at Otay Ranch High School lived up to its billing as this year's Mesa League championship match-up. The host Mustangs defeated the Titans, 93-43, to win the boys dual while the visiting Lady Titans captured the girls half of the meet by score of 78-58.

    Mustangs spike Barons, earn no worse than Metro-Mesa...

    The Otay Ranch High School boys volleyball team clinched at least a share of this year's Metro-Mesa League championship by defeating host Bonita Vista 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 Friday afternoon. The league championship, either sole or shared with another team, is the 10th consecutive for the Mustangs, according to ORHS coach Bowie Haug.
