    Titan track team excels at Sweetwater Coed Relays

    The Eastlake High School track and field team had lost two state qualifiers to graduation and had several of its top athletes missing due to a major soccer tournament in Las Vegas. Still, the Titans had enough talent remaining to capture the Division I championship title of last Saturday's Sweetwater Coed Relays at the National City school.

    If there is one team that has been a thorn in the side of the Eastlake High School boys lacrosse team, it has been the Granite Hills Eagles. The Titans have come up empty in nine matchups against the Eagles since the 2005 season, twice losing by scores of 7-5 and once by 9-8 - and otherwise generally by blowout.

    New format CIF playoffs draw positive feedback

    The 2014-15 interscholastic term marks the second season for sports such as football, girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, and boys and girls lacrosse, and the third season for such sports as baseball and softball, that have employed a new competition-based scheme for post-season competition within the San Diego Section. Section commissioner Jerry Schniepp said the idea for the format switch was to produce a more balanced playoff structure, with parity ruling the outcome of games from the opening round onward.
