    The UC San Diego baseball program has been picked to finish third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in 2015, as voted by the league's 11 head coaches in its preseason poll released on Tuesday. UCSD accumulated 82 points to place just behind Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona , which split the 11 first-place votes among themselves, with the reigning West Region champion Wildcats getting six as the CCAA favorites for the fourth year running.

The Barons defeated the visiting Hilltop Lancers, 67-52, Friday night in a non-league rivalry game to improve to 14-7 on the season.

    League play faced off this week for Sweetwater district roller hockey teams and foremost among the opening-round winners were the Chula Vista Spartans and Otay Ranch Mustangs, both of which scored impressive victories. The Spartans edged preseason favorite Castle Park, 7-6, on Tuesday in a fiercely contested match-up for the early lead in the South Bay League while Otay Ranch rolled past previously undefeated Hilltop by a score of 9-0 on Wednesday to roar into the Mesa League lead.
