    Improved Lady Cougars should be a factor in WBL race

    In the 2014 Western Buckeye League meet, in fact, the Lady Cougars scored the most points they've scored since 1983. Van Wert's 80 points in the WBL meet was 20 behind Celina and 10 behind Ottawa-Glandorf, but far more than the Cougs have had in recent years.

    Cougar boys eyeing league title

    The Van Wert boys track program continues to roll along, competitive year after year. In 2014, the Cougars were third in the Western Buckeye League, fourth at districts, and eighth at regionals.

    Cougar tennis team returns six of eight letter winners

    With six of eight letter winners returning and some newcomers contending for varsity slots, Van Wert's tennis team is looking to improve on its 2014 results. The Cougars were fifth in the Western Buckeye League in 2014 - a combination of fourth during the regular season but a disappointing sixth in the WBL tournament.

    Area prep basketball coverage: 3-15

    Using a perfect third quarter, St. John's Jesuit put an end to top-ranked Southview's perfect season Saturday night at Savage Arena. The Titans hit all eight of their third-quarter shots from the field, including two 3-pointers, and made all four of their free throws in a 22-7 period that turned a close game into a 57-30 rout.

    Celina has big finishing kick to oust Elida in boys ...

    Elida and Celina have been long-time rivals in the Western Buckeye League and played their league boys basketball battle just three weeks ago, with Celina winning. When they two met up again Wednesday night - this time in a Division II District semifinal at Liberty-Benton High School - fans expected a tighter contest, especially with two teams and coaches that know each other: Elida's Denny Thompson and Celina's Chris Bihn.
