    Bulldogs beat Roughriders for district crown

    Earlier this season, it took the Celina Bulldogs 79 minutes and 52 seconds to strike a goal against the St. Marys Roughriders in their Western Buckeye League meeting that eventually ended in a 1-1 tie. When the two squads clashed in the Division II boys soccer district championship match Thursday night in Elida, a tie game wasn't an option.

    'Riders sweep Cougars

    It was fairly smooth sailing for the St. Marys volleyball team in their opening match of the Division II district volleyball tournament. The Roughriders cruised through the first two sets against Van Wert 25-18 and 25-16 and then had to play catch-up in the final set before ultimately sweeping the match with a 26-24 win.

    Just when the momentum was whisked away from her team by Wapakoneta, Bekah Carr literally used her head to right the ship. Carr's header into the back of the net with 9:58 left in the first overtime gave Celina a 2-1 win over Wapakoneta in the Division II girls soccer district semifinals on Tuesday at Elida Middle School.

    The Bulldogs scored three goals in the first half against rival St. Marys and finished with a 4-0 shutout in the Division II girls soccer sectional final Thursday night at the soccer stadium.     The Celina cross country team had a strong showing at the Western Buckeye League Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Shawnee High School. Defiance ran away with the girls team title by placing five runners in the top 13 to finish with 27 points, while Celina's Runnin' Women engaged in a duel with Van Wert for runner-up honors.
