    Van Wert boys tennis keeps on rolling

    With a tough Celina team coming to town on Thursday, Van Wert's tennis team was in a position it has rarely been this late in a season: sitting tied atop the Western Buckeye League standings. With just two league matches remaining before the conference tournament, the Cougars couldn't afford a letdown against the Bulldogs, who entered the match at 6-2 in WBL action.

    Cougar defense falls flat in loss to Celina

    Two of the Western Buckeye League's better teams squared off at Celina's Eastview Park on Thursday, but only one looked the part. The host Bulldogs took advantage of six Van Wert errors in stopping the Cougars by a 9-3 final.

    Bulldogs edge Redskins in WBL play

    Jimmy Luebke tossed seven innings of four-hit baseball, the Bulldogs staged a pair of two-out rallies to produce runs and then held off Wapakoneta's seventh-inning charge to pull out a 2-1 Western Buckeye League victory Friday night at Montgomery Field. "It impresses the hell out of us, because we're young," Celina coach Andy Mikesell said.

    Bihn confirmed several social media reports late Friday evening, noting that he submitted his resignation earlier this week. The Celina board of education holds its monthly meeting on Monday.

    Hits were at a minimum Friday afternoon as Miller City and Columbus Grove hooked up in Putnam County League baseball action. Miller City moves to 3-0 in the league and 8-0 overall, while the Bulldogs are 1-1 in the league and 2-3 overall.

    Panthers bounce back to beat the Bulldogs

    The fun continued Thursday as the Panthers defeated Celina 4-3 in a matchup between a pair of one-loss teams at Don Black Field. The Bulldogs, down 3-0 entering the seventh inning, staged a two-out rally in their final at-bat and Stephen Fleck tied the game at 3-all with a two-run single.
