    Four Mustangs win school awards

    Fort Morgan High School handed out a pair of awards to some of their senior athletes Thursday morning. The 2015 Bill Malone Outstanding Senior Athletic Award was given to Christina Frick and Eric Kembel , and the Stan Lampe Multi-Sport Award was given to Maddie Brashears and Joey Schneider .

    3A State baseball postponed

    For the third time this postseason, the Brush Beetdiggers baseball team has seen their schedule change due to rain. Championship weekend for the 3A State Baseball tournament will resume on Tuesday and Wednesday at Butch Butler Field in Greeley, Brush and University are scheduled to play at 3:30 p.m. Friday morning, the Brush Beetdiggers and University Bulldogs were supposed to face off at 10 a.m. at Butch Butler Field, with Eaton and Sterling to immediately follow, and a champion would be crowned Saturday morning or afternoon.

    Final four Patriot League style

    Brush senior Brandon Walter and the Beetdiggers offense look for a repeat of their 16-hit performance against University from April 22 when the two schools face off this morning at Butch Butler Field in Greeley in the 2015 3A State Tournament. All season long, the Patriot League has been considered the strongest conference in 3A baseball during the 2015 season.

    Gutierrez to play football in Nebraska

    Brush senior Mikey Gutierrez is joined by mother Kathy and father Michael during his signing to play at Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, at Brush High School on Thursday. Yet another athlete from the 2014 Class 2A State football championship team in Brush will be moving on to play at the next level.

    University Bulldogs back in final four of Class 3A B...

    The Bulldogs would need to win two games Saturday to take the state title away from the Reds. The last time the Bulldogs were in the final four of the Class 3A Baseball Championships, George W. Bush was still in his first term as president and social media didn't exist yet.

    Chatfield baseball players prepare to take the field against Mountain during Chatfield's 3-2 extra-innings win in the Class 5A state tournament semifinal game. The Class 5A and 3A state tournament was postponed Friday again because of rain.

    Reds taking nothing for granted in pursuit for 11th ...

    If Eaton wins, it will face University or Brush at 10 a.m. Saturday in the first of possibly two finals games. If the Reds lose to the Tigers today, they would automatically move on to a winner-take-all finals game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, awaiting the last team standing between University, Brush and Sterling.

    Brush junior Clay Shaver anchors the boys 4x100 meter relay team in the finals on Saturday at the 2015 State Track and Field Championships. Brush finished fourth.

    Salazar takes second in shot put to lead Lamar

    Lamar's Jake Rogers is exhausted after the running of the 1,600 run on Saturday in the Class 3A Colorado State Track and Field Championship held at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood, Colo. The Lamar junior placed 7th in the event with a time of 4:31.73 Lamar senior Santana Salazar capped his high school career with a second place finish in the shot put with a personal best throw of 49-05.75 in the Class 3A Colorado Track and Field Championships on May 14-16 at Jefferson County Stadium.

    Beetdiggers hold on to advance

    The first two times the Brush Beetdiggers and Valley Vikings faced each other in the regular season, both games featured an offensive explosion. Both teams met in the 2015 State tournament on Monday, looking to move on to championship weekend on Friday and keeping their hopes of a State title alive.

    One-hit defeat: Brush falls to Eaton for third time

    Brush junior Arnoldo Maltos-Garcia jumps and fires to second baseman, sophomore Jeron Petterson, during Friday's championship bracket game with Eaton in Greeley. The Beetdiggers lost 2-0, and will play Monday afternoon for the right to advance to championship weekend next week.
