    Clinton Arrows try to keep winning streak

    The Clinton Arrows will try to keep a four-game winning streak tonight against metro rival and Region 2-6A opponent Northwest Rankin. The Arrows, ranked fifth in The Clarion-Ledger Super 10 poll, have not lost since falling to Brandon on September 5. CHS brings a 6-1 overall record into the game and a 3-0 mark in Region 2-6A.

    With four region games left, the fifth-ranked Clinton Arrows are still in total control of their destiny in Region 2-6A. The Arrows, after a 28-14 region win on the road at Jackson Murrah last week, improved to 6-1 overall, but more importantly, 3-0 in region play.

    Starkville High School football coach Jamie Mitchell has talked all year about the depth of the state's top-ranked team. Starkville won its third-straight Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A, Region 2 game by shutout in a 38-0 victory against Greenville at Yellow Jacket Stadium.

    The Columbus High School football team did several things well in its Class 6A, Region 2 game against Northwest Rankin on Friday night. Columbus continued its trend from early in the season by committing six turnovers in a 20-7 loss on a wet track at Falcon Field.

    It might not be the time for absolutes, but the Columbus High School football team needs to start winning games in Class 6A, Region 2 if it is going to advance to the playoffs. Columbus slipped to 1-5 and 0-2 in the region following a 41-17 loss to Clinton last week.

    The Arrows are 2-0 in Region 2-6A with five tough region games left starting with Jackson Murrah High Friday night at 7 p.m. at Newell Field in Jackson. 'We are glad to be where we are right now, but there are a lot of tough games ahead and we just have to look at it one week at a time,' said Arrow head coach Judd Boswell.

    Top-ranked Starkville posted its second shutout in Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A, Region 2 play, and made it eight-straight perfect quarters in a 42-0 rout of Northwest Rankin at Cougar Field. For Starkville , quarterback Brady Davis was 19 of 22 for 290 yards and three touchdowns.
