    Summit has dominated the OSAA Class 5A girls track and field championships for almost a decade, but the 2015 version reached the highest level yet. The Storm won seven of the 17 events and broke their year-old all-classes record for team score, finishing with 151 points, 26 better than their total from 2014.

    EUGENE Lebanon's first boys state track and field championship was built in a matter of seconds at the Class 5A meet at Hayward Field on Saturday. Junior John Bates competed in the javelin and triple jump simultaneously, and in a dramatic flourish won the first and finished second in the other, both on his final attempts.

    EUGENE Summit sophomore Olivia Brooks broke a 5A state meet record in the 3,000-meter race and the Storm registered its first-ever state championship in the high jump, thanks to Hannah Cochran, to put the team on pace to earn its ninth consecutive 5A team title and a possible record-setting point total. After setting a new benchmark for team points with 125 last year, the bar was set high this season for the girls to make a statement.

    EUGENE After watching its streak of three consecutive state titles come to an end last season, Summit boys track coach Dave Turnbull brought in former athlete Dan Williams, member of the 2005 state championship team, to give the team a pep talk. After outscoring its form chart by a point in the boys 3,000-meter final and advancing nearly all of its expected athletes to Saturday finals, it's clear that boost proved effective.
