    La Salle Prep volleyball: The Falcons lead the Northwest Oregon Conference with an 8-0 record after beating Liberty and Putnam in three-set sweeps last week. La Salle Prep is 10-1 overall, the lone loss coming in a tournament at Bend.

    No. 2 Grizzlies put on a show

    Summit proved to be as explosive as advertised, but it was Ashland that came away with a flashy nonconference victory Friday. The second-ranked Grizzlies rode a fantastic opening quarter and five turnovers to a 35-14 victory over 10th-ranked Summit in a battle of Class 5A football powers at Summit High School in Bend.

    Summit coach Joe Padilla said sophomore quarterback John Bledsoe is getting better with every snap he takes, and the Storm has started the year 2-0. While that may be true, Bledsoe hasn't faced a defense as stout as Ashland's this season, and the rubber is about the meet to the road for the Bend squad.

    Bend shuts Eagle Point out in 49-0 romp: Recap

    Hunter McDonald rushed for 131 yards for the Lava Bears to help them to a 49-0 shutout at home against Eagle Point . Six of Bend's seven touchdowns came on the ground with McDonald scoring two and QB Creighton Simmonds adding one.

    No. 2 Grizzlies expect test from Bledsoe, Summit

    According to the voters who determine the weekly top 10, it's one of the biggest Class 5A football games of the week. But to Ashland High head coach Charlie Hall, it's mostly just another nonconference game, and thus another opportunity for the Grizzlies to define themselves.

    A sophomore with a familiar last name is among the young players making an impact early this season in Oregon high school football. John Bledsoe, the son of former Washington State and NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe , has thrown six touchdown passes in leading Summit of Bend to a 2-0 start.
