    But when the Allentown School District decided to "error on the side of caution" in regard to fears about the loose gunman in the Poconos and decided to request a change to Saturday afternoon for the Huskies and Mounties, I was looking for another game. And my plan was to cover a high school game and then continue on Route 80 East toward New York City, and ultimately, New Haven, Conn., where I will cover today's Lehigh game at Yale.

    Kevin Ronalds wasn't quite sure what he was seeing when he sat down to watch the game films from Palisades' season-opening loss to Southern Lehigh. The Pirates managed just 169 total yards - normally a routine night's work for workhorse running back Christian Gretzinger, who was limited to 27 rushing yards in the 19-8 loss.

    For years high school football coaches have been telling me their sport is the best of all sports because no other sport teaches things like discipline, character, control, poise, teamwork and dozens of other positive traits as well as football. Other sports can promote individualism, but not football where you can't succeed without hard work and working in unison with your teammates.

    Bangor is playing a non-league soccer game against Northwood School of Lake Placid, N.Y., at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Bangor coach David White is taking his team to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid for a weekend stay.
