    Firebaugh High answered the early-morning alarm while Golden Valley was slow to awake, and the result was an Eagles' runaway Saturday morning in the Central Section Division IV baseball championship game. Senior right-hander Sal Alaniz pitched a three-hitter in a 6-0 win, with the Bulldogs falling a game short of the title for a second straight season.

    Central Valley Christian's improbable sweep of Central Section top seeds in Division V baseball was denied Friday night by a pitcher with a bad arm. It certainly didn't appear that way for Chavez's David Gil, whose two-hitter with eight strikeouts beat the seventh-seeded Cavaliers 2-0 for the school's first section title in any sport, according to historian Bob Barnett.

    The season is over for Aja Erskine of the Chico State University women's track and field team, but it certainly ended with a bang. The Rodriguez High graduate joined Marino Berrios, Bailey Henshaw and Olivia Watt in breaking the school record in the 4 400-meter relay, turning in a time of 3 minutes, 47.05 seconds at the Sacramento State Open, smashing the old mark by 1.65 seconds.

    The playoffs for the CIF Central Section Division II playoffs officially began last week and Tehachapi had a stiff test right from the get-go against East Yosemite League champion Porterville.     No. 3 seed, first round playoff bye for Lady Warriors

    After getting rained out in their season finale against West, the Lady Warriors drew a bye in the first round of the CIF-CS Division 3 tournament. That means Tehachapi won't play again until Thursday, May 14, against the winner of a Kerman-Porterville first-round game, giving the Warriors nine days between games.
