    Cougars win Carrollton Invitational

    Newnan's golf team held on to its opening round lead during the final day of the Carrollton Invitational en route to a 21-stroke victory on Monday at Sunset Hills Country Club. The Cougars finished with a 36-hole score of 591 after playing over consecutive Mondays.

    Jonathan Gettys, Mikey Gonzalez and Michael Curry combined to pitch a perfect game in a 16-0 win against Salem in 2 1/2 innings on Friday. Gettys finished with four RBIs off two hits, and Sims Griffith had a hit and three RBIs.

    Trinity boys cap off week of shutout wins

    Trinity Christian's 1-0 victory over Sherwood Christian had a feel similar to an even bigger victory on Tuesday for the Lions, who continued to pick up steam heading into next week's showdown with rival Heritage School. Senior Keith Lyons converted a penalty kick in the second half to break a scoreless tie and Trinity's defense held tight in front of first-year starting keeper Alec Collins to help the Lions improve to 6-3 overall.

    Spring sports round-up: More wins for JHS track teams

    Jefferson spring sports round-up: March 17-23 TRACK AND FIELD Saturday, March 21 a JEFFERSON BOYS WIN GAC MEET: On the strength of 20 top six individual finishes and wins from Alex Mason in the 300-meter hurdles and Clay Pender in the ninth and 10th grade 1600-meter run , the Jefferson boys' track team claimed the GAC Invitational team title with 101 points. This was the boys' team's fourth win this season.

    Winder track preps for big week ahead

    A Winder-Barrow relay runner races against a Gainesville and Apalachee racer at a home track-and-field meet on March 10. The Doggs will once again host the Cook Holliday Rotary Relays Invitational Saturday at W. Clair Harris Stadium. Jay Branch won two events, Ethan Womack won one and Andre Jackson scored in three events Saturday as the Winder-Barrow High School boys' track and field team placed third in the Greater Atlanta Christian School Invitational meet at the GACS track.

    Wildcat track faces stiff competition at Parkview

    Destany McDaniel broke her own school record in the long jump for the Apalachee High School girls' track team and Tyler Fragapane won his event for the boys' team, but the Wildcats had a difficult time scoring in the Parkview Invitational meet Saturday at the Panther's track. Apalachee's girls scored only 15 points to place 12th out of 19 teams scoring points and the Wildcats managed only 12 points to place 17th out of 21 boys' teams scoring.

    Athens Christian's Link calls it a career

    When Ron Link retired as coach of the Cedar Shoals boys basketball team in 2007, he left the door open to return to the sport he loved if the right opportunity arose. Opportunity came just days later in the form of Athens Christian School, where Link has since coached the Eagles to unprecedented heights for the last eight years.
