    At Athens Academy, the Athens Christian boys finished first in six events Friday and won their 11th consecutive region track title, collecting 177 points in the two-day Area 2-A Private championships.     North Springs Girls Track Team Wins Region Championship

    Molly Jackson, Dory Perkins, Micaiah Ransby and Tyra Williams also posted the fastest time in track history in the 4 x 400 meter relay. North Springs Charter High School's girls track team pulled out all the stops on Thursday, scoring 94 points to win the Region 7 AAAAA championship.

    Indians wrap up region title with convincing win

    Jaquez Williams went 3-for-4 against Westlake with two doubles and a two-run homer in a 10-3 victory that wrapped up first place in Region 3-AAAAAA for the Indians. The road to another Region 3-AAAAAA baseball crown in 2015, wasn't exactly paved in a straight line of neat little bricks this spring for East Coweta.

    Alexis Satterfield wasn't buying it when coach Don Brock told the Lumpkin County girls soccer players that they could win the Region 7-AAA championship this year. Three years ago, the Lady Indians struggled to a 3-15 record, unable to even qualify for postseason soccer.

    Lions run away with 1-AAA championship

    Trinity Christian's boys track team dominated Tuesday's Region 1-AAA championships on Tuesday at Tara Stadium, scoring 232 points to more than double its next closest competitor. The Lions won 10 of 16 events and had a second place finisher in meet's other six events while racking up a 105-point victory over seven schools in competition while showcasing its overall depth.

    Playoff spots on the line in final week

    Local high school baseball teams are scheduled to complete their regular season schedules this week, with several teams involved in battles for state playoff spots facing a string of games after much of last week's action was rained out. Johns Creek and Chattahoochee are both competing for the fourth and final state playoff spot from Region 6-AAAAAA, and both teams are scheduled to play five region games this week.

    Bethlehem's golf finished second in GISA 1-AAA last week in order to advance to the state tournament this week. Tyler Legg was the low scorer for BCA as he shot a 79, followed by Luke Peavy with an 80. Brandon Hinton was third for the Knights with an 84 while Cole Gower shot an 86. The state event will be Saturday, April 27 and will bring together several of the best golfers from around Georgia to compete for the GISA state championships.

    As East Coweta held its tiebreaker for first place atop the Region 3-AAAAAA standings with an 12-0 win at Westlake on Tuesday, Newnan also continued to stay hot on the Indians' heels with victories over Douglas County and Pebblebrook on Monday and Tuesday. The Indians, who have a makeup at Campbell today from an earlier rainout, scored all 12 of their runs against Westlake over the last four at bats while finishing with seven hits.

    Hawks, Lions win region games

    The Heritage Hawks kept a perfect record in GISA Region 1-AAA intact with a 12-2 victory in six innings on Monday over Weber School at home, while Trinity Christian picked up region wins over Loganville Christian and Griffin Christian on Monday and Tuesday. Leading just 4-2 after four innings, Heritage broke the game open with four-run rallies in both the fifth and sixth innings.
