    Riverwood boys' soccer celebrate season under new coach

    From the moment he came to Riverwood to interview for the vacant head soccer coach position, Jeff Welp has left a lasting impression on his players, fellow coaches and school administrators. "I was actually sent to stop him from driving out of the parking lot so my principal could offer him the job," said athletic director Mike Santoro.

    Marist boys repeat as Class AAAA tennis champions

    On May 9, when the Marist and St. Pius boys' tennis teams arrived at Clayton County International Park, one team would leave as back-to-back state champions and the War Eagles claimed that honor with a 3-0 victory in the Class AAAA final. "I think one of the motivating factors is that it kept us focused all year," Marist boys' coach Thomas Marshall said.

    The Jefferson Dragons' baseball team split its first two games against the Westminster Wildcats in the Class AAA state semifinals on Tuesday. The deciding Game 3 will be played today at 5:30 p.m. at Westminster.

Distance played a huge role in the Marist Lady War Eagles capturing another Class AAAA track and field title in Albany on May 9. Caitie Faust won the 400- and 800-meter races and fellow senior Morgan Ilse finished first in the 1600- and 3200-meter races to help Marist notch 81.5 points and hold off Baldwin for its third championship in a row.

    Spring postseason comes to a close

The postseason in prep spring sports in Georgia concluded this week with the Chapel Hill girls' golf participating in the Class 5A State Championship at the Maple Ridge Golf Course in Columbus on May 18. Other Douglas County spring programs ended their season in the previous two weeks.

    BT, Cambridge girls capture tennis titles

    The Blessed Trinity and Cambridge girls captured state tennis championships May 9, with Blessed Trinity running its string of titles to seven straight years. The Titans won the Class AAA title for a third straight time after four consecutive Class AA titles from 2009-2012.

    North Springs Honors Girls Track Team For State Cham...

    The Lady Spartans brought home the gold with their first place finish at the Girls' State Track Championship in Albany on May 9. The North Springs' Girls' Track Team - the 2015 State Champs with the No. 1 nationally ranked 4 x 400 relay team - was surprised Friday with a limo ride, lunch at Sandy Springs' Mellow Mushroom and thunderous recognition before the school's student body.

    Prep Player of the Week: Honorable Mention

    Don Terry, Tyler Jones, Harper Sigler, North Oconee: Terry won the state title in the Class AAAA pole vault at the Georgia Olympics. Jones was second in the 1,600-meter run and third in the 3,200.
