    Georgia falls on road to Georgia Southern

    A two-out, two-run double in the seventh by Aaron Mizell lifted Georgia Southern past 18th-ranked Georgia 4-3 Friday at J.I. Clements Stadium. The Bulldogs saw their three-game winning streak snap but the more pressing question Friday was the status of Georgia sophomore ace Robert Tyler and freshman left-hander Bo Tucker who both left the game with injuries.

    Georgia Southern's Aaron Mizell wasn't changing his approach at the plate, even if he was hitting .147 coming into Friday night. But the senior ripped a towering two-run double in the seventh inning, and the Eagles held on to defeat 18th-ranked Georgia 4-3 before a crowd of 2,251.

But the visiting Cavaliers got a total team effort, and Lewis returned to provide a spark down the stretch as Calvary downed Savannah Country Day 53-37 in a GHSA Class A Private School quarterfinal Tuesday.

    SCD rolls to victory in playoff openes

    The Savannah Country Day girls basketball team started its playoff opener with Whitefield Academy on a dominating first-quarter run, but the Hornets struggled in the second quarter and let the Wolfpack back in the game. SCD coach Dale Parker didn't have to say much to her veteran squad at the half, but a few words and a defensive adjustment did the trick as Savannah Country Day rolled to a 49-28 win over Whitefield to advance to the second round of the Class A Private School playoffs.
