People can use the "stand your ground" law as an excuse to shoot anyone they feel like shooting. If they lie to the cops, saying they were scared the victim might hurt them, the burden of proof is on the cops that the person wasn't really scared. How are they supposed to prove that? In most cases the perp can get away with murder just by saying the right words. No more need to hire a hit man, when you can do the dirty work yourself much cheaper and with practically no risk.

So you're playing a race card. But we need more race cards than that to be played before we can play 52 card pickup.

It's the same "stand your ground" problem regardless of race. Anyone who wants to shoot anyone, regardless of their reasons for wanting to shoot them, can get away with it by just saying the right words.

The shooter is of Hispanic heritage so how does race become a factor? Also he did not go underground until the other day and he did so because certain groups have offered money for him dead or alive per some news sites? He got a broken nose and a cut on his head from the altercation. Does that give him the right to shoot someone? I don't know as I am not him and I was not there. It's truly a very sad incident to say the least

Anyone of ANY color can be racist! It doesn't necessarily have to be a white, black or Hispanic issue. What about the different racial profiling with those of middle eastern heritage? All of a sudden, because of what their skin color is or the different features they have from yourself, they are automatically profiled as a terrorist or are closely monitored. Enough is enough! You wouldn't want to be treated like that then why do it to others!

my bad Timmy I didn't knownthe news told the story?? I forgot you had the inside scoop and you know he went into hiding the NEXT day! If i was him I'd lay low as well. You think he is just gonna be out eating at a restaurant? You say facts and I believe I gave you some by saying none of us were there and he had a broken nose and a large cut on his head from a fight he had with the other half of this. Those are facts ad they have been stated many times. I'm not saying what he did was right or wrong I'm just saying it was a bad deal and bow he has to live with his decision and so does the young mans family

could it possibly involve 'class war' as well since the shooter lives in a gated community?

None of us were there, only the FL police and investigators can put this together. It's unfortunate the young man is dead. However, if he indeed attacked Zimmerman then I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing. Again, none of us were there and a lot of all these movements are based more on emotion and race rather then good clean evidence. I say let them do there job, and then once we have more pieces it will start making sense.

Oh no, it was because he was black! Don't you know, that's what wrong with all of the black people?! That's why the prisons get half of the black, male population, because they are black! White people are out to get them!

Here is a crazy idea.... Let's get ALL the facts before we rush to judgement. You people are scary. Really??? So you know what happened? Because I have read all news reports and watched several different stations reporting on it. Facts are still coming out, yet Jesse Jackson, al sharp ton, Louis Farrakhan along with most of you on here have already convicted this man of a hate crime. Look it is a terrible tragedy, horrible! If that man shot the boy in cold blood he needs to go to jail forever, agreed! Let's find out what happened first, this is still America right??? Did you know the new black panthers have put a $10,000 bounty on Zimmerman? You folks ok with that? Spike lee tweeted zimmermans address. That ok too??? Is that where we are as citizens now?

The difference lies in the fact that the decades upon decades of unfair treatment and cruelty towards blacks (by whites) have made blacks stronger. When there is an injustice, blacks come together and support one another, especially when blacks feel it was a hate crime or crime committed because of race. I commened the black race for standing up for what they believe in instead of posting hate on websites such as topix. The black panthers put a bounty out on this man, no doubt that's wrong, no argument there. If we could UNITE as a country the way blacks do when there is an injustice, we'd all be much better off.

Zimmerman is not white. Convicting anyone without due process, regardless of color is just wrong. No excuses. Those guys were not standing up for blacks, they are stirring the pot. I have never heard the term "white Hispanic" until 2 days ago. NEVER! They will go so far to make something a race issue. Again, let's let the facts come out, this guy needs to answer to a jury of his peers for what has happened and then justice will be served. That is AMERICA pal! We do unite as a country when there is an agreement as to what has happened. Remember 9/11??? THe fact is as of right now there is not enough information to unite on anything. WE DON'T KNOW THE FACTS YET!!!

America united after 9/11, you're right in that statement. BUT, we united in a way that brought about racism against ANYone who appeared to be of Middle Eastern dissent. That's not uniting as a country, that's uniting amongst some and stereotyping against others.

You have a very high opinion of a certain person today, believing that they can do no wrong. But how realistic are you being? It looks as though you're viewing the world through rose-colored glasses, which is fine if it's only a temporary state but quite another matter if you're deliberately ignoring problems and pretending that they don't exist.
