Everything was called a 'Pop' if it was carbonated.

Coke is more common in the South as a general word for all soft drinks. People from Ohio use the word "pop".

i think that "pop" sounds really red neck... plus, soda comes from the original term "soda-pop"... so i guess pop could be acceptable too, but it sounds red neck.

I'm originally from MI, and have always said "pop."
