Soft Drink Names Debate - Jonesboro, AR

Soda water....it is a South Texas thing. "Coke" also means anything....usually a Dr Pepper.

I have called it soda water for decades. I think it is just a southern thing. Coke has a generic meaning when it is mentioned in passing like "lets stop and get a coke". Dr Pepper stands alone I have never heard anyone say Dr Pepper and mean something else. Dr Pepper does have a very dedicated group of followers especially in Texas.

My wife calls it pop. She's a Yankee tho

The only folks I have ever heard call it "pop" were Yankees....

Agreed. Back in Texas we would "stop for a coke", and all of us would walk out of the store with a Dr Pepper. Or two.

I suppose I'm a really older folk...we've called 'em "soda water" for as long as I can remember. They go by different names at the store, but in aggregate in the ice chest/washtub/refrigerator, they are soda waters.

I say "drink" or "soda". Use to be "Coke" but that's because when I lived a home that's what we had to drink. My mom says "pop" and she is from the North. My husband jokes and says "sody water".

I say soda. over the years I heard soda, pop, sody pop, coke, cola, soda water and others I cannot think of right now.

Because that was my first carbonated drink.

Soda is the generic name for all carb drinks

A recent conservation at my house. "When you go to the store pick up some Cokes. What kind? I don't know, get a case of cokes but get some orange, or root beer too, I don't care just mix it up."

Because hearing the northerners say pop just sounds strange and Coke is the name brand of a beverage.

coke may be a name brand but so is Kleenex, aspirin, dry ice, zipper and more.
