I was unaware of the lax procdures. If they can be tightend and made safer then go ahead. If not stop the drilling until OUR Government can bring pressure to bear to on the run away oil companies to bring them into line.

Yes, but the government needs to regulate these big companies.

Offshore drilling is generally quite safe. This accident and the failure to contain the spill are highly suspect.

America is evolving. The end product is not going to be good.

There are over 3000 wells already pumping oil in the Gulf. The danger is in the drilling and lax regulation and no viable means to stop an oil spill. All the oil that is being taken out of the Gulf goes to the open global market,no matter where it comes from. We do not keep that oil. So the argument that we will be oil independant if we drill off shore holds no water.

As long as we can all agree on the safety contingencies that are in place I can support offshore drilling.

Pumping oil in the Gulf is fine, as long as we're not pumping oil INTO the Gulf.

Someone please explain, if it is dangerous to drill at 500 ft or deeper, then why is the President loaning 3 billion dollars to a Brazil Oil co. to drill at 1500 ft? By the way, this company has a 13 billion annual profit.

The damage to the enviroment by oil drilling is not worth it. The wars fought over oil are not worth it. What good is a energy source if it destroys our life and everything else? We should be much farther along on developing wind, solar and hydro power.

Then practice what you preach. Walk the walk don't just talk the talk.
Sell all your possession that use combustible engines.
Stop using any plastic products.
Stop using any product that uses oil or oil related products in order to be manufactured.(Good luck with that one).

In other words, live like it's 1870 all over again.

Are you going to practice what you preach or are you one of those liberals that want others to sacrifice?

If a conservative doesn't like guns, they don't buy one. If a liberal doesn't like guns, then no one should have one.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, they don't eat meat. If a liberal is, they want to ban all meat products for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy. A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is homosexual, they quietly enjoy their life. If a liberal is homosexual, they loudly demand legislated respect.

If a black man or Hispanic is conservative, they see themselves as independently successful. Their liberal counterparts see themselves as victims in need of government protection.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church. A liberal wants all churches to be silenced.

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A liberal demands that his neighbors pay for his.

No, I don't care to elaborate on the end product. Before I do, sorry I haven't gotten back sooner but I have been travelling. The end product of the evolvement of the United States is BALKANISTION. I do not know if you have heard or know the meaning of the word but this is the future of the United States. BALKANISATION. Balkanisation is a process that happened to a region by the name of the Balkans. The Balkan countries used to be Greece, Albania, and Yugoslavia but today the Balkan countries consist of Greece, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Slovenia. Also Montenegro. With this information I believe you are intelligent enough to figure out what I mean by the United States is going to Balkanise. Into what entities some of you can figure it out but I will go further into the subject if anyone wants me to do so.
