There are plenty of oil wells land side that is not being pumped or used. The threat to the environment is too great to continue as we have been.

We are way beyond believing that oil is a necessary evil. Every time we resign ourselves to that "fact" we get marketed that we need and deserve Hummers and Hemis. And development of alternatives gets shelved. Leave the poison in the ground.

Actually, a viable, cost effective solution to the energy crisis does not yet exist. Many people give lip service to alternative energy sources, and have the desire to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, but so far none of the alternatives are efficient enough or cost justified. The people that complain generally drive cars, and use other forms of fossil fuels without even being aware that they too, contribute to the problem. Understandably, nobody is volunteering to address the real problem, which is global overpopulation.

Apparently BP CEO Tony Hayward has taken control of the situation and got his life back as he sails far from the Gulf in his $700K yacht. He will soon be back at the office handling what he expects to be a deluge of American ‘liitle people’s’‘bogus claims’. Until this leak thing is undercontrol, he recommends that gulf residents still enjoy the waters, just be creative and open-minded with some new seafood dishes, maike some kind of game out of who can pick up the most tar balls, and enjoy swimming in the gulf as usual, just be careful and don’t smoke on the beach, and stay away from open flames when first getting out.
Pres. Obama was unavailable for comment as he left the Mets game on his way to playing golf.

We are going to need to have oil to provide the energy we need for our continued well being and national safety.

Thousands of hard working people will be out of work if we discontinue offshore drilling. While we should continue efforts to epand other sources of energy, use of oil will not stop and will be a necessary product.

We don't need the BP platform in the Gulf or any platform in the Gulf. We will be able to buy all the oil we need from George Soros and Brazil when they get those platforms working off the coast of Brazil. Good ol' comrade Soros using our tax money to make a killing off the Brazilian coast. Aah, Washington politics are great. We can also make the Gulf of Mexico a Chinese/Russian lake by letting them do the oil drilling. I would say comrade Obama has a lot of pull with the Chinese and Russians. He has the ability to make a British company do things for an oil disaster 48 miles out in the Gulf. How far is the limits of the United States into the ocean and gulf now? It's past the old 3 mile limit. Maybe we can get the Chinese to drill off our Virginia and North Carolina coast. Isn't constitutional socialism great? I know, I know someone is going to ask what is constitutional socialism? I'll wait until someone asks.

Owl, those tax breaks for the rich are very creative if you have enough money in your wallet or purse, there is no need to pay taxes as most of the wealthy do not have their earned wealth taxed as we do. They ,the wealthy have equal access to tax write offs. Maybe you just have not made it to the the wealthy category yet. Most of us are still trying, that is if we still have a job to go to.

Oil companies need more tax subsidies because a billion a month in profit is just not enough.

Rose, they oil companies are drilling every where they can. what is slowing them down is not having enough drilling rigs to search for il and for drilling. Besides they will never drill enough wells to make us independent of the Oil Cratels, OPEC. Another source of fuel is thoriun, it is 4 th=imes more plentiful that uranium and safer, has lest wate that uranium, 1to 5 percent wates to the tons and tons of uranium left over at power plants. We have over a thosand year supply of thorium. It ocst less tha uranium to produce elctricity. Andis safer. Corporations have know about THORIUM FLOURIDE BASED REACTORS FOR YEARS, BUT THEY DO NOT PRODUCE BOMB GRADE MATIERALS FOR NUCLEAR BOMBS AS URANIUM DOES. aND WE HAVE 4 TIMES AS MUCH THORIUM AS URANIUM FOR A FUEL TO RUMN ELECTRICGENERATING PLANTS. THORIUM REACTORS HAS BEN KNOWN ABOUT SINCE THE 1950S BUT DONE AWAY WITH BECAUSE THEY DO NOT PRODUCE BOMB GRADE MATERIALS AS DOES URANIUM. Some European countries are starting to build thorium based Reactors

We need the energy from the oil, so we don't have to buy it from abroad. Drilling shouldn't be that dangerous. BP just screwed-up badly, and made some very bad decisions.

sequestration of all gaseoeus and solid by-products of fossil fuels is possible. Their is no will to create an industry to do so. The technology is there to be devlopove the science.

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Sagittarius

It's time to muster all your resources and energies and push through to the next level. The harmony between Mars and Saturn will support your efforts. If you need to dig deeper into shared resources or your credit facilities, now's the time to do so. With careful planning and perhaps family support, you can consolidate and somehow find greater security. This is a calculation not a risk though.
