Gov't forced oil companys to drill so deep. It's gov'ts fault, because there is plenty of oil easily accessable, that is off limits because of bleeding heart liberals, who btw use oil too.

It's the foundation we need for a energy transition policy as alternatives are developed over the next 50 years

IIRC, some form of petroleum is in the make-up of around 70% of the products we use today, not just fuel. Its need is not going to go away for many years to come.

THERE'S LOTS AND LOTS OF FUEL TO BE WISELY CONSUMED by the whole world, but, got to control it before the whole ocean is ruined for the next generations to follow on the other hand: what's 2012 brining to us?

Agreed! Now lets start by letting US Companies drill in many offshore shallow tracts. Also let our US companies who hire US citizens drill onland as well instead of drilling ultra deep offshore wells. Not that an accident can't happen in shallow or on land rigs. It just would be much more easier to stop the blowout if one should occur, God forbid.

The oil and drilling companies had a long history of getting away with cutting corners on the costs of production well completion, and the Mining and Minerals Service let them get away with it. An accident like this was inevitable.
Deep offshore drilling, if done in accordance with industry standards, is not as risky as most people seem to think.
The oil companies want USA to drill, pump and use as much domestic petroluem as possible to maximize profits. However, a better strategy would be to drill, pump and use foreign oil, first, and save as much of our domestic reserves for when everyone else has run out. Even if we find alternative sources of energy, we will still need petroleum to make synthetic materials like plastics.

drilling does nothing to reduce our dependence on foreign oil... we have 2% of the worlds resources, and it all goes on the international market anyway... I say let's use up the mideast oil and save ours for a rainy day.... when oil is $1000 a barrel

We willingly choose to buy theirs instead of drilling here for our own.

Though the disaster in the Gulf is huge, to compound that disaster and cripple the economy further by eradicating more jobs would do even more untold damage to America on even more levels.

Okay it wouldn't let me vote but I say drill.
Right now, though the disaster is incredible and mind-numbingly huge, the shutting down of many peoples jobs will further hurt the economy and American families.
Now is NOT the time to further cripple more American families, putting them on the government payroll.
Another bone to pick with Obama, and indication that he really doesn't get it...concerning jobs or this oil situation. How can a president be this so dense?

To understand his moves or lack of moves in each individual situation, one must keep in mind he is a socialist and with that in mind one can anticipate his every move. His every move will be to further the socialist cause and bring America deeper into the socialist morass. This is the reason the elections of 2010 and 2012 are very important, probably the most important of our lifetime thus far. It will determine whether the socialist agenda goes further or we reject the socialist agenda and further the constitutional agenda.

Pumping more oil isn't going to save us. Wall Street will experience a "double dip" which will throw us into a deep Depression. A lot more people will be out of work then those affected by Obama's moratorium on offshore drilling.

Okay, I will give you that much, but then the question will be, is the lack of oil/energy resources in the near term or is the economy itself going to be the one that really hurts America.
