I don`t LIVE in Oakland but my older brother used to live in Merin County .He worked for Skywalker Films or something like that. doing some thing for George Lucus.(I bet I spelled merin wrong)and we used to drive tru there.Lets put it this way If you work for the State of Calif and you are trying to impress somebody, take them to Palo Alto or someplace like that and skip Oakland all together.

Break down of the Occupy Wall Street people.

Traffic on the Occupy Wall Street site averaged about 400,000 visitors a day during the sample week (October 7th), which represents more than 10% of the population. 1619 people completed the survey.

Age

Not surprising, nearly 2/3 of the protesters are under 35. But one in three is over 35 and one in five is over 45.

Racial/Ethnic background

81.3% of respondents considered themselves White, 1.3% Black\African American, 3.2% Asian,.4% Native American Indian, 2.9% Mixed, 7.7% Hispanic, and 3.2% considered themselves some other group.

Education

Only 7.9% of respondents lack at least some college.

27.4% have some college (but no degree), 35% have a college degree, 8.2% have some graduate school (but no degree), and close to 21.5% have a graduate school degree.

Employment Status

70% of respondents had jobs. 50.4% worked full time. 20.4% worked part time.

Only 13.1% are unemployed.

Income

47.5% of the sample earns less than $24,999 dollars a year and another quarter (24%) earn between $25,000 and $49,999 per year.

71.5% of the sample earns less than $50,000 per year.

15.4% of the sample earned between $50,000 and $74,999.

The remainder 13% of the sample earn over $75,000 with close to 2% earning over $150,000 per year.

Politics

27.3% of respondents considered themselves Democrats, another 2.4% said they were Republican.

Interestingly, a very large proportion of the sample, close to 70.3%, considered themselves Independents.

Cordero-Guzman concluded that the 99% looked like the 99%.

The one way they did significantly differ was in gender. 67% were male. 30.9% were female and 2% preferred another gender designation.

92.5% of the respondents either strongly or somewhat agree with the protests. Over 91.8% believe the movement is likely to grow.

Babysitting is a good word, except that these people are not babies.
And I realize Oakland is a boil on the butte of society, but enough is enough! To compare these protesters to The Tea Party bunch or even M.L.K. protests is absurd. You have admitted Communists calling the shots at most of these venues! And it is time to draw the line when I see a pic of a young white male defecating on the American flag, while male and female alike cheer him on.

I was being sarcastic,I see no interest in police solving the murders in Oakland as a matter of fact the police call murders of drug pushers"pest control"and put little money in to solving those crimes unless an innocent 3rd party is affected. That is why made my comments.I went down and watched the crowds in downtown Ventura Ca and all I saw was a bunch of nerds with nothing else to do go participate, with many undercover police taking pictures of the nerds.I didn`t feel at risk at all, frankly they looked stupid to me,but then how can anyone in Ventura Ca get worked up about anything?

I went on the web site, and that was very representative of what I saw,and half of those people were out at the tea party rallys,(nothing would keep my son from a free meal) so we went past them.

More like an Employee list,I realized why the OWS and Tea party people looked so familiar (at least in Ventura)because they were hired to stand on the sidewalk and carry different signs.I have also seen these SAME people getting signatures from voters for various causes. At least some of these people are paid from someone.I also know that the extras from the movie co`s go from one stupid minimum wage job to the next if it includes a free meal.So go back and look at the news paper photos from both the tea party and OWS and you will see some of the same faces.I am not claiming that there are not sincere people there I am only claiming that some are just actors looking for a meal.

<<<<<Some of the Media went and interviewed the homeless people that have been living in the parks for years, also a bad group called (black Flag) were looting and burning.>>>

BLACK BLOC!!!!

I have come to the realization that most Republicans don't have the IQ of a pet rock.

I suggest you look up Occupy Housing, Occupy Faith, Occupy Vets, Occupy Marines and so many more groups under the Occupy label. ALL doing GREAT work.

It simply infuriates me when I see military members who have served 4-30 years in the service, who have been multiple times to war zones - sent by ignorant war hungry greedy Republicans.

And when they stand as Occupy members they are told to GET A JOB.

It's thoroughly shameful what Republicans stand for.. thoroughly disgraceful.
