I only gave examples of what I do and the amount of hours I work to better communicate why I felt CEO's deserve the pay they get. And instead of trying to find fault within my answers, or isolate some of my thoughts into a category of description, why not just have a conversation? I didn't realize I was being examined with such scrutiny.

The 4% Solution that you speak of was written by 5 Nobel Laureates and a combination of some pretty bright conservative minds, but I have not read it yet, so I wouldn't be able to give you any kind of accurate opinion. I was only replying to your comment about CEO pays and its correlation to the loss of middle class jobs. Like I said, just an opinion and the ability to disagree or agree is wholly within you right. I just hope you maintain an open mind, so many these days refuse to do so.
If I may attempt to answer your question, however, is that growth will come slowly by means of a structural change in our economy. Outside of political policy, which is subject to polarizing criticism, a great deal of my colleagues and peers feel that the next driving factor for growth is a bit hazy. The middle class jobs lost to outsourcing will not be coming back in the same form as they were lost. Manufacturing, in most regards, is no longer viable in our country because we are not competitive in wage/labor rates as well as misc. costs. To achieve 4% is incredibly difficult, and to do so in this economic climate, outside of monetary, fiscal and political policy, will have to come from tangible growth in a new sector...be it financial, bio-tech, tech or even consumer service.
Historically, most of the economic recoveries have been anchored by growth in the housing market. And the tough access to capital and lending have made it difficult to obtain financing for the typical homeowner. The continued loss of jobs in the middles class have also made it difficult for the pool of homeowner candidates to increase. So in order to increase the number of potential homeowners that would help catalyze home sales, as well simultaneously increasing the number of middle class employed, we will have to see a combination of increased consumer confidence, certainty, and a new leader in an innovative industry. Obviously, this industry will have to wield the power to have a spill-over effect that carries over to other supplemental industries.
I know who the book was written by and what it was about...I just don't understand how growth is going to rise to 4%...guess I will have to read the book to see what their assumptions are.

How is the housing market going to improve if the middle class economy doesn't improve? How is the middle class economy going to improve if middle class jobs are no longer here? There are only so many service jobs available and most of them don't pay middle class wages. You haven't told me anything yet to respond to. You have to do better than this or I'm done. This is like arguing with a fog....there's nothing tangible.

Arguing with fog? Instead of trying to purely argue for the sake of promoting your political ideology, why not step away from the typical degradation of the conversations on here and have a real conversation that you or I may actually take something away from? I replied to your assertion that CEO’s were taking away from middle class jobs by showing that their compensation package had no direct correlation to the number of people employed by their respective corporation, and that their work load was something to be admired and emulated as they have a very specific talent that is analogous to a superstar athlete. You balk at the prospect that such an executive position requires a concerted effort that likely consumes 24 hours of their time 7 days a week, I counter by saying that any Chief Executive Position demands exactly that. I never said I had the answers to a sustained 4% growth, and most of those who claim to are likely to be promoting politically inclined monetary and fiscal policy. If you want to have that argument, go have that with someone else.

I was very clear in saying that 4% growth, or anything comparable in that realm derived from business contribution and not politics, can only be achieved by catalyzing the housing market, which is derivative in great part by instilling certainty, encouraging capital investment and re-establishing consumer lending to increase the pool of candidate owner-occupied home buyers. When I was referring to the Service Economy, I was referring to how outsourcing to countries like China and India was a direct result of their manufacturing based economy, and that the next industry here to anchor growth would be where the growth in middle class jobs will be created. And I hope I do not have to explain that almost every aspect of our economy including where the next growth engine will be, whether it be Financial, Hospitality, Retail, Health, Bio-Tech, Information Tech. and Social Media are all components of a service based economy and product offerings.

I'm going to give you a short answer. My son is in the 1% and he works long hours but has plenty of play time too....but you would never find him on Topix trying to justify himself. He employs 8 people full time and provides access to a good living to countless other people. In addition to that I have worked with many business people over the years and I know the difference between real people running a successful business and somebody blowing smoke. You're a student who has learned a lot of hocus-pocus business world jargon and are trying to pass yourself off as a business person...but it's not working. I'm done.

1%? Is that the limited extent to which you are able to classify an executive? And considering I have never even told you what I do, how many people I employ, or what standard of life I enjoy, I can see that you are just a talking point who's only able to try and demean an answer you may not have the faculty of even understanding. Just because someone employs 8 people and enjoys a nice life with "playtime" does not in any way address the fact that the skill and demands needed of a CEO does not in any way correlate to how many people that respective company employs.

Maybe you should take the time to read my answer and contemplate what it actually means before answering next time. You say that I talk about "me", however I have only given you examples of how many hours I work to provide an example as to how the CEO's that you attack for their lofty salaries would have to work, and the fiduciary responsibility that demands their undivided attention. And if you read further, and perhaps complement my information with some actual economic data and financial data that you will find with a rudimentary google search, you will see that my assertions are quite shared amongst the general business population.

And whether you believe I am a student or a business executive or proprietor of a small business, it does not detract from my point nor my answers. Why are you fixated on the issue of what I do or how much I earn? I have not made my occupation any kind of point here. You have an inclination to attack who I am and not the fact that I have only addressed your assertion of the "undeserved pay" of a CEO. I didn't realize I was trying to impress you. And your assumptions of a person being on Topix, and the direct correlation to how that would exclude me from being a successful executive, could be symptomatic of a very limited view on people in general.

~~~~ WHY aren't the people his main concern?
Mr. Obama has not held a single meeting of his jobs council in more than six months.
He has not received a presidential briefing on the economy in well over a year
Politifact
The RNC said that over the last six months, Obama has golfed 10 times and held 106 fundraisers even as his jobs council didn’t meet once. The RNC’s tally is on target. We rate the statement True
This is such a shame...and he really wants our vote?
If memory serves me correctly, Bush couldn't wait to get out of office fast enough. I would have loved to see him stayed in office for 6 more months. No other president ever left office with the auto industry going down the tubes. I never heard anyone say Obama is broken, they say wash dc is broken. When they got Bin laden they praised the seals, but if they had failed we all know who would be catching hell, now don't we? If Bush was still in power we could have Bush reading to the children once again except it would now be in Chinese
DEBT...private or national, has hurt everyone.
If we make 250,000 a year and go in debt for our home, cars and clothes, and never own anything....we asked for it. Greed is what is killing this nation. If I were to make 250,000 keep my old jalopy, that is still in good shape, wear the same clothes and paid off my humble home. I would own my home...no it is not the McMansions that everyone craves, but I own it. Possession is 9/10 ths of the law. Lol! Not having a mortgage has gave me freedom. If I get downsized, I will still have a home. I only need to worry about the food and taxes I have to pay.
If everyone made owning a modest home and living below their debt limit including the US, we wouldn't being crying today.
Americans tend to spend what we take in. We are still doing it. Even Obama is spending money he doesn't have...our children's children will never pay off the debt.
Here here. I totally agree. This is awesome advice. I was layed off my job recently. We were warned for over 2 years that downsizing was coming. I did not buy a new car, take numerous vacations, buy yet another large screen tv, like many of my co-workers did. I am not nearly as stressed about the layoffs as most. People just don't think. Most want what they want like a small child. Excellent post
“Obama’s ratings have been consistently among the most polarized for a president in the last 60 years,” concludes Gallup’s Jeffrey Jones in a memo summing up the results.
I don't think he has made it worse, I think he has made it better, even if only slightly. Democrats always make the economy better. I believe if he stays in office we will truly see things get better over the next four years. I really need to go do some research though, so I will post after I have done so. Bush did completely destroy the economy so Obama didn't have much to work with coming into office. Everyone just gives him crap because he's black, then they say it is because he is a bad president without any proof to back it up. I am going to go get my proof now before I say anything else, and if I am wrong, I will come back and admit it. For now my vote is better.
