The US Constitution makes it clear that all Americans are entitled to the same rights. Period.

Either you make marriage a completely social institution, which means two consenting adults can marry and receive full benefits for doing so, or we can make it a religious institution and then nobody will get any benefits for marrying. Those opposing gay marriage can't have it both ways, either everyone gets it or nobody does.

It's not a moral issue, it's a constitutional right. If you think marriage falls under the realm of religion - The 1st amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion. Therefore government needs to leave the whole marriage issue alone. However, since government is involved in marriage, and confers special status, taxes and an additional 1,000 benefits to married couples - Article 1 of Amendment 14 - No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.
In America, marriage is licensed by the government, and does not require any religious affiliation. Withholding tax status, the ability to marry, etc. from two consenting adults is un-constitutional. Keep your morals and religion out of politics. If you oppose gay marriage, you are on the wrong side of history. It will become law, and your children and grandchildren will laugh at your ignorance and stupidity.

Everyone deserves equal rights.

Separate but equal is unamerican and proven to fail.
