Yes I support gay marriage but I also think President Obama is only using this for his own personal political gain. Maybe a distraction from his failed illegal policies and the disaster he has been as President. He sure can't run on his record.

I'm not "with" him, or anyone. This isn't like some shocking announcment that a democrat supports gay marriage. Don't they all?

What's the next stupid question? Are you with Obama on increased gun control? Are you with Obama on his pro-choice stance? Are you with Romney on his tax breaks for the wealthy? Are you with Romney on his pro-life stance?
Stupid poll.

Its a big distraction and not nearly the most important issue, this should be getting zero attention by an American President at this time.

No, I have a mind of my own. For more than 3 years Obama was against gay marriage. For political reasons only, he is now for it. I agree with the old Obama. Marriage is between a man and woman only!

He knows he is going to lose the upcoming election, so he changed his stance on gay marriage hoping to keep from talking about the economy. At the same time thinking he may get lucky with some new votes. (didn't work) Now he also has a reason for his upcoming loss. He will claim that he lost because he stood up for gay rights.

I want to keep my country secular and certainly wouldn’t want to live under any form of religious law; and elected officials represent the many different people who elected them and not any particular religious organization. The private religious doctrines of these legislators’ faith communities cannot dictate their political positions. That would effectively “establish” their church’s view as the law of the land, something that the Constitution forbids.
This is the realm of politics and for lawmakers to make law equal; and people of faith, proceeding in good faith and for essentially religious reasons, can come to different conclusions about what policies to support and for whom to vote. Thus, when churches and religious organizations want to see political officials punished because of their support for same sex marriage are making a serious mistake. They are trying to put God in a box, restrict the love of God, and the justice of God to their own partial understanding of human sexuality and this includes a respect for loving relationships and the will to marry both in custom and in law.

Fear is a horrible motivator for human behavior. It can cause us to do all sorts of wild things. I suspect that a deep-seated fear of God lies behind much of what we see in the world today. No person is as sick as a person who is sick on bad religion because the kind of God that Americans worship affects the kind of people we are. If that God is seen as unjust when doling out punishment; its likely we will be the same.
