Thirty states now ban same-sex marriage, while six states and the District of Columbia permit it. Two additional states have passed bills allowing gay-marriage, though it's possible they could be overturned by voter referendums.

California was one of the states that band same sex marriages and it is being challenge in federal court.

I think Obama is playing to the gay base that already supports him. He may pick up a few votes but he also may take a beating in the swing states such as Ohio.

We live our lives according to our own beliefs and what makes us happy, not by someone else's definitions. Every time the government is allowed to define our freedoms as an individual, us as a country will have eventually have none. We should be fighting for freedoms and defending our rights, not defining them and making new laws. What is this country coming to?

I personally am not against states allowing same sex marriages. It's not my job to tell people how to live their life as long as they are not interfering in my life.

Our country is based upon people having freedom to do what they think is best for them as long as its not hurting others. Freedom of religion, freedom of speech ie.Most laws get created because someone has abused someone else's freedom somewhere along the line in history.

Just because I have my personal beliefs concerning God does not give me the right to force others to conform to what I believe. Thats one of the reasons the founding fathers created the separation of church and state that gets debated so much on.

The Bible warns us that's it's God's job to judge us and not are job to judge others. In Gods eyes we are all sinners which includes straight and gays.

Call it something else. Marriage is already defined. They should have any benefits that married couples have. But should also have to file for divorce etc as married couples. It should be legal just like marriage.

To be very honest, I can support very little that Obama has done,'promises' & then fails to deliver on or basically lies. Like transparency, balancing the budget, keeping unemployment under 8%, closing Gitmo in a years time, reducing the debt, working across the isle, saying that if he didn't achieve his campaign promises that HE should be a ONE term president etc etc etc. The only thing that has ever come out of his mouth that I now care about is the last item that I listed. He can still keep that promise. Too late for the other promises.

I wouldn't begrudge or belittle anone for being gay. But marriage? I don't believe so.
