nucular energy is the most efficient form of making energy as of now. The only problem is all the bad rep they have from way back in the 60's or whenever and finding a place to store the rods when they are depleted

If those nuclear rods are so safe they should store them in the backyard of whoever manages the plant.

That should be the deal, build the plant but the spent fuel rods get stored in one of those safe indestructible barrels down in the basement or under the home of whoever profits from building the plant.

Wonder how many nuclear power plants would get built then?

explain the efficiency of storing a container, full of material that is deadly for the next 100,000 years. We have tons of the stuff already waiting for something to happen.

Do you know western ky has the highest rate of cancer in the world per capita. That wouldn't be because of our Atomic plant would it? Long time residents here know plenty of people taken by cancer. BTW if your going to say something about smoking, heart disease got most of those, plus people used to smoke everywhere once upon a time.

I think according to the situation in Japan currently there would have to be very strick guidelines. The vault line in our area would/could make a nuclear plant a VERY bad idea!

you all need to do more research there is more depleated uranium in the air from the coal dust put off by tva and as for japan we can make something better and safer not all nuclear plants require power to cool them.

It is Saturday morning, the unfolding event in Japan continues. The numbers reported earlier were bogus, evacuation area expanded, food sources contaminated, ocean water contaminated, radiation has reached Denver. Bigger and more leaks reported.

How many people die each year from nuclear power plants? Now how many people die each year from other fuel sources, such as coal??

Which exposes the public to more radiation: waste from nuclear plants or waste from coal plants?
Senate Bill 26

your rep. in Ky. is pushing this bill. If pass, your city, will have a Nuclear Power Plant, with
on-site storage for the waste. Nuclear power is more expensive than coal. So that being said, higher bills to the people.
Look up bill 26 read it yourself.
If you are against Nuclear Power, you should call
Frankfort, or write letters.

I wonder how long it would take to build a nuclear power plant.

It takes several years to build a nuclear power plant. Nuclear power is the most efficent way to produce power and it can produce several times more power than any other type of plant. With the exception on water to produce power efficently and environment friendly wise nuclear is next in line. Im not a nuclear engineer or anything but surely after all these years of designing plants they would have figured out how to run the cooling systems and all electrical components directly from the turbine generators so the plant will be self dependent for power. That in itself would be a big plus for safety in my opinion. I just think its stupid to rely on outside power to run the most crucial system of a nuclear plant. As for building a nuke plant here in Kentucky, I am definately not for it. I think its a big no no to even think about it for reasons of our fault lines thats been due to strike for years. If that quake ever strikes in our lifetime with a nuke plant here it will be much worse than whats going on in Japan. Think about it... Kentucky Dam will break, water will flood Paducah and most likely the future nuke plant if its ever built here. All nuke plants must be built along a major source of water. Put those three things together and we will have another disaster identical to Japan.

I understand how energy works and I can do math. We need to split more atoms.

Why are we talking about his? We have the best source of energy, rivers. Yet we are investing in a dam on the Ohio (Olmstead) that has no turbines...WTH?? I doubt we will see a Nuke plant in Western Ky due to the New Madrid fault and the coal industry.
