Nuclear Power Debate - Dyersburg, TN

It depends on the technology,(pebble bed reactors look promising as far as reactor safety goes) but still as a rule NO!. Not, until we figure out what to do with the spent fuel. It is not fair that countless future generations must deal with our $h!t because we are too tight to get off a dollar. I'm afraid that history will call us the "selfish" generation.

Solar is the ultimate resource and we will HAVE to eventually go there, but of course we won't until it costs less than burning up a dinosaur or busting a cap in an atom's a$$. Sad but true.

More nuclear power

Who would want a nuclear plant anywhere close to them or there family after what happened in Japan when we have earthquakes all the time i know we havnt had any big ones but that doesnt mean we wont after all we are on the Newmadrid fault line

There is probably no sense in building more plants. Nuclear power is more of a transitional power to get us to the next stage. Solar energy will become more popular now that there are more incentives, such as rebates, tax credits, and financing options. (See TVA website). With enough solar panels, a home can become an energy source to the electric company, instead of an energy sink. (There are people who receive a check, instead of a bill from there electric company). So, I think the main thing for Americans is to be aware of how much energy they are actually consuming, and try to negate frivolous energy losses; our population growth demands this. With this in mind, there will be no need for more nuclear reactors to be built. I am well aware of other forms of alternative energy, but I believe solar to be the most conventional for most areas. Since China has really shifted to alternative energy product manufacturing, the costs should decline, although you may not have a job to pay for the product). Anyways, the only new plants that I think should be built are for the Navy, because I really don't know a more conventional energy source to move 100,000 ton ship.

Let's fully utilize the ones we have now before building any more.

Look At what has happen in Japan ...its self explainatory..when somthing is soo dangerous and can affect the whole world in a devistating way it should not be allowed or put in operation under any circumstances, its proven autos can run on water soo this is not a better option

There are other safer and more ecologically sound options such as solar and wind power.

While i am a big fan of solar power it all comes down to cost, to completely power a home of say 1,300SQ FT it would cost about $30,000 then you have to factor in that current PV arrays only have a life span of 20 to 30 years at which they will only have a maximum efficiency of 80% or be dead.
Also the cost of replacing batterys, invertors, bad panels ect. and even with best systems there is a loss of 15% during the convertion from d/c to a/c...some as much as 50% so to start off your only getting 50 to 85 percent of the power the panels produce to begin with and thats if you have the array at your home, think about it ...if the power company were to use solar they have to convert it to a/c ramped up to very high voltages lossing much of its power in the proccess to travel to your home then of course back down to 240 volts our homes use.
So we would be looking at power bills 20 times what they are now....coal is cheap thats why they use it

I support Nuclear Power but NOT in Dyersburg the New Madrid Fault is right Under us....if it is built Nearby it needs to be able to withstand a 10.0 Earth quake

Solar power would have to be from the houses themselves. Who would even think to transfer that form of energy across the nation when we already have a shit power grid? The best answer is to stop wasting energy. The U.S. is ridiculous in terms of the amount it uses. The costs for doing this will come down. Manufacturing through our great neocolonialism will drive the costs down with demand. Why do you think our government gives all these tax credits? We as the people, should demand this.. the more people who are interested in alternative energy.. the more pressure. I believe this route is more attainable over the alternative fuel for vehicles just because of the markets that it affects. If we had petroleum based homes, we'd be fck'd. All in all, solar is not the answer to all, but for those who can afford it.. why not?

wow, we have "rocker science" and "it sucks" lol dyersburg is diffently going to be on the map for education :)....but anyways i wasn't bashing solar in my last post...i was simply stating that it doesn't produce much power at all ...at best its good for power outages or remote locations.
fuels cells are starting to become avaliable though and they produce large amounts of power from various forms of gas's and our government has been working on alternative engery for the past 70 years....you should check out the satelite they launched that produced so much power it burnt the 8 mile tether cable

I'm oppose only because of the fault line, if not for earthquakes I would say replace all energy plants with them until we develop a safer power source that can replace them.
