Let's invest in cleaner, greener (and safer) energy before nuclear!

Nuclear power for me !! Cleaner, greener and safer. I don't want a mess of cold dust or oil fumes. We have to get less dependent on oil and coal. Wind and solar is not a good option in this region of the country. Not enough water flowing to consider a large hydro plant. So best option is nuclear.

I like how you started this thread, just as the one in Japan has been in the news for the last two weeks.

According to Duke Energy's website, the McGuire Nuclear plant on Lake Norman provides half of the energy for the Carolinas:

And I'm very grateful for it each time I turn on a light.:)

Human nature and nuclear power plants are a bad combination.

What if something was to happen at a local nuclear plant and everyone had to move out of the area forever? Human nature and nuclear power is a bad combination.

i would say there should be a movement towards renewable sources of energy and a movement to try to abandon such scary & harmful instances that are happening in japan right now. it could be so much worse, lets thank whomever that it is not.

Perhaps you'd like to go back to building an open fire and boiling it in a kettle? LOL. Oh, btw - since it bothers you so badly, please make sure your A/C is turned off - we don't want you to risk our existence just to stay cool. ;)

Two major problems for the most predominent forms of renewables.
1. Sun doesn't shine all of the time.
2 Wind doesn't blow all of the time (unlike most tree huggers)

What happened in Japan was indeed extremely unfortunant, we must learn and move forward with NUCLEAR. Lowest cost and most reliable 24/7.

sun doesn't shine all the time?
oh, you mean to tell me it goes on vacation or something?
do you mean those fluffy things above the sky allow the sun to take a break?
um, not so much. if you go above those clouds, guess whats always shining??
you ever took off on a plane in overcast, cloudy weather and then whenever you pass the clouds its a sunny day? same concept.
i figure if they can make an elevator to space, they can probably find a way to capture and store the energy of a sun that -surprise- always shines somewhere.

and just like with the sun's energy, they should be able to capture and store the energy from wind. if they can make 3D TVs and phones that can find you a bathroom and do everything but use it for you....why can they not figure out a way to capture and store?

And there is no doubt in my mind that you have rode on your "elevator to space".... Too bad it don't go all the way to the top....

whatever thats supposed to mean???

[how come they can research/fund this, but not a way to capture the sunshine that ALWAYS shine...well, except when our side of the world is turned away from it. "the sun doesn't always shine." lol.]
isn't it easier to say that its not going to work, rather than to try?? mmhmm.
