We need nuclear power together with all of the above. Since this area is earthquake prone, I believe that we should develop Thorium reactors and look into what Bill Gates is supporting... Wave nuclear reactors that burn up the U-238 leaving almost no waste and with existing spent fuel rods, he says we can power the USA for hundreds of years without the intense radiation associated with existing reactors. Apparently China, Russia and other nations have big efforts in these areas. Make sure we get whatever we build onto very stable ground because if we cannot be certain that an earthquake level 9 or greater or volcano etc., will occur, we have no business building any major component of our infrastructure in uncertain locals.
