I am a civil libertarian. Want to smoke a joint? Fine. Want to pick up a hooker? Fine. Want to kill yourself? Fine. The government shouldn't be involved in the personal affairs of grown adults who choose to only "harm" themselves.

If the State controls the level of THC,the people who sell it, taxes it, and offers counseling as they do for lottery addicts,it seems no more debilitating than beer and is medically useful. Re the stepping stone theory, serious prosecution of dealers and users. One hangup, does pot permanently affect a user's memory functioning? But alcohol can permanently harm the liver and cigarettes kill the lungs but States love the financial income from taxes.

marijuana is safer and more body friendly than alcoholic. less tar per day is inhaled than cigarettes. no one has ever died as result of overdosing but in order for this to even be possible, people have to relize that the users of marijuana have to deal with people who sell other drugs which then push more dangerous drugs onto the marijuana consumers.

You're echoing the old "Gateway Drug" line and it's a fallacy. Folks who deal pot tend to only deal pot in my experience. I've been a regular consumer for many years through various sources and have NEVER had anyone try to push hard drugs on me.

Its ridiculous that it is illegal in the first place!!!

It is time to stop the insane persecution of a harmless substance and the people who need and enjoy it. Marijuana is much less harmful than alcohol and helps people with many health issues. Time to end the insane lies about marijuana.

It is a slippery slope, look at how our society has changed over the past century. What sort of success our we setting ourselves up for by allowing this? But let the majority decide as our forefathers wanted, just remember strong federal laws were never meant to exist, it should be removed from the federal drug schedule and the each states majority should decide. Though we would see the drug war from Mexico shift from California to Washington and etc.

Being regulated means that marijuana would be sold by persons who are licensed by the state to sell a certain product(beer,wine cigarettes,liquor) they are not going to lose a gold mine by being stupid and trying to sell illegal drugs.

Legalization of pot, and the taxation which would follow would be the economic boost this country needs.

honestly..growing up ..my mom drunk ..not a good picture and lots of suffering for me in my life..when she smoked a joint..i couldnt have asked for a better mother! she could focus on me and laugh the way mothers and daughters should..only reason in my opinion she drank so much is because it was legal and that was her get away but she was scared to b high all the time..my life as a child could have been different if pot was legal!!!

As long as it is taxed and treated in the same manner as we treat Alcohol and Tobacco. It would decrease deficit by increasing federal funds. Decrease jail population for petty crimes, therefore opening space for real criminals.

legalize ..make money for the gubbermint ..clear out the jails of this petty offense.. get these lard ass cops to worry about real criminals. a win win situation gateway drug haa pot is harder to get now big and bulky so they import coke more money smaller packets .. so if pot was legal there would be less ppl doing coke because it would be readily available... imoa
