Marijuana is a medication for many persons. It helps people with glacoma to clostrophobia. As a recreational drug, it is the least likely to cause societal problems. I believe it gets a bad name from people who mix it with cocain, meth etc.and then takes the blame. It generally has a very calming, destressing effect.

Yes, it can be a medication to some in California. But with the advent of prop 215, it has become a highly abused schedule one narcotic.

The ease of obtaining a doctor's recommendation, coupled with the retail stores selling grow materials is also part of the picture. If the stoner vermin would just admit they wanna get high, instead of hiding behind some fake ailment, it may have some more acceptance.

As it stands now, it's dope, plain and simple. To call it "medicine" is a joke, since most who are smoking it are not the one's prop 215 was intended for.

The media is only pushing the smoking side, not the other area that will arise such as privately funded testing for so many other uses

This is one way to reduce the number of deaths by people using alcohol - the real killer drug in America.

Marijuana users are much less likely to become violent or emotionally unstable than people drinking alcohol. We need to find a way to regulate it, like alcohol, so that there would be stiff punishments for driving under the influence or contributing to minors.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. They wanted me on Vicodin and Flexeril, daily.

I don't think so. OPIATES ARE NOT THE ANSWER.

The history of medical marijuana
Medical marijuana was prescribed by doctors until 1942. That's when it was taken off the U.S. pharmacopoeia, the list of commonly available drugs.

"Marijuana has been a medicine for 5,000 years," says Donald I. Abrams, MD. "That's a lot longer than it hasn't been a medicine." Abrams, who is an oncologist and director of clinical research programs at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at the UCSF School of Medicine in San Francisco, is one of a handful of top-flight doctors in the country researching medical marijuana. "The war on drugs is really a war on patients," he says.

It was not a surprise to me to read of successful trials in Germany for fibromyalgia with THC, the medicinal chemical in cannabis/marijuana. I have about 100 fibromyalgia patients using marijuana/cannabis very effectively. It is known that cannabis has good analgesic, antispasmodic and euphoriant actions.
