They do, it's called dronabinol, the brand name was Marinol. It's usually prescribed for cancer patients to stimulate their appetite. But it doesn't always work. The biggest problem is you have to convince someone who basically has open wounds all in their mouth and throat and entire GI tract to swallow a pill and wait around 90 minutes, and then get them to eat. Instead of just letting them breathe in fumes, be affected by some of the other still-yet-not-understood components found in the leaf, and be ready to eat within 5 minutes. My biggest complaint is that I don't want to be attacked by smoke like this out in public. It is horrible enough already walking into a restaurant or retail store. Also, people can develop lung cancer, asthma, allergies, etc. So we will also have to be paying for these things too. I just see it driving up costs even more. I also see us having to accommodate these people in restaurants since it is "medically necessary" in smoking sections. I don't want to smell that shit. I have enough respiratory issues. As much as I hate to say this, when you are absolutely desperate, it wouldn't be all that difficult to get your hands on some marijuana if you felt you needed it that badly. If you aren't hungry on some days, couldn't you just drink some Ensure? I'm just saying if you have the desire to live, you fight the fight. The desire to live is maybe more of the issue sometimes. I just see people fighting other issues every single day. How about the bus driver who suffers from chronic pain, but cannot take an opiate because they drive children to and from school and it would make them drowsy. |
|
This medicinal reason is just an excuse to get marijuana legalized. It will be abused like everything else is abused. When we have a marijuana abuse problem, it will be up to the non users to pay for the mess.

I can sympathize with the smell issue, I don't like it either. But I thought public buildings are non smoking? And we don't sit and watch people change their band-aids in public or use their nebulizers in public. Cancer patients are in so much pain, plus many end up feeling they are going to die anyway, why are they fighting? A person in chronic pain does get depressed, but death from the pain doesn't enter the picture. And drowsiness from opiates, when the drugs are being used continuously on a scheduled basis, goes away. Medical personnel will never admit it though because then there could be legal ramifications if there were a car accident. |

I see this being treated as a disability in a sense. Employers, restaurants, etc. will be required to accommodate these individuals; similar to what you have to do with a handicap ramp, etc. I see smoking sections coming back into restaurants. I see employees taking pot smoking breaks on a schedule. Could you imagine in a factory environment? Remember we cannot discriminate against these people from hiring even though we will discover their reaction time is delayed as a result of being "disabled." If you have cancer, why do you want more carcinogens in your body? |
|
It is a gateway drug...it sends every teenager who tries it to a drug dealers house that most likely also sells much harder drugs that actually kill people...in fact i had a fellow that was advocating pot legalization ask me if i had ever, in my entire lifetime, heard of anyone dying of a pot overdose---well i had to say no i hadnt-- i know more people who had died from alcohol than pot---so why is it illegal??

If they can lead to lung cancer. I also can avoid living in areas which have factories such as these. I can't avoid going to Walmart, or the local, nonexistent Waffle House. |

[QUOTE who="you bet" to a drug dealers house that most likely also sells much harder drugs that actually kill people.[/QUOTE]
This is the first good reason I've ever heard to explain why pot is a gateway drug. So if/when marijuana becomes legal, the gateway argument really flies out the window. I honestly believe most people would use it in the same way they use alcohol: once in a while at a party for social use; or people who take a hit or two to help them sleep then go to bed. I already know a a number of people who only ever use it those ways.(Admittedly, all those folks are still out west.) Professional people who would never think to use it while working, just as they would never drink alcohol while working. |
|
funny thing is, i very rarely ever see or smell anyone openly smoking pot in public yet it is only a misdemeanor offense in ohio and the penalty is similar to an open container of alcohol...yet i see and smell drunks in public places almost every day...also if it were legalized i believe most pot smokers would be much more respectful to other people and not smoke in public as boo seems to think would be epidemic..

one more analog.... a kid has a bb gun and he is going to buy bb's whether his mom and dad object or even have an idea that he using bbs because most teens dont care if bbs are illegal and such....i would not want him to go to a place that says we're out of bbs but i can sell you an ak-47 and bullets or maybe a sawed off shotgun or even a bazooka if you prefer...i would like to see an experimental teen stick to safer alternatives...fyi -did you guys know the big oxy dealers often sell the young kids pills dirt cheap so they will get hooked and then they tell the kids that run out of money that they will take dads tools or mom's and gramdma's jewelry for pills too ... these kids will start stealing so as to not get dope sick and most will never recover from this cycle... i would, as a parent, much rather deal with my kid smoking pot and drinking with the understanding that i as an adult, am hopefully smart enough to be able to work through these problems and have my kids end up ok

I think we can all agree that alcohol is a bad thing. I doubt there are very many of us who have not experienced in some way the drunk uncle at the family reunion, the job loss and financial ruin due to alcoholism, the fatal accident involving a DUI, or the expense of a DUI conviction or something like that because of our friend, alcohol.
Now, explain to me why in the hell would you same people think legalizing marijuana would be a good thing. We already have alcohol to deal with in a legal sense. We don't need another "alcohol" in the mix. Marijuana impairs judgment, coordination and memory just as alcohol does. It's bad enough we have to watch out for the drunks and the cell phone abusers on the road, next we'll have to watch out for the potheads, too. |

if u have gas u do.lol |
Believe it or not, a drug charge on your record looks worse than an open container or public intox charge on your record. That's why you don't see people flaunting their marijuana in public. |

Once it becomes legal, it will be flaunted. It will become a badge of honor just like the handicap parking sticker. "I'm disabled. I deserve special privileges." No, you're a depressed, fat **** who allowed life to steamroll over you. Not my problem; just my pockets! |
