Weed(illegal) 0 deaths. Alcohol and tobacco(legal)999999999 deaths..... Why does the gov think all citizens are dumbasses. They'd rather US die or kill ourselves/eachother..

According to an approved statement from the US Department of Justice in 1988, "Nearly all medicines have toxic, potentially lethal effects. But cannabis is not such a substance. There is no record in the extensive medical literature describing a proven, documented cannabis-induced fatality. In practical terms, cannabis cannot induce a lethal response as a result of drug-related toxicity." From January 1997 to June 2005, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported zero deaths caused by the primary use of cannabis. In contrast, common FDA-approved drugs which are often prescribed in lieu of cannabis (such as anti-emetics and anti-psychotics), were the primary cause of 10,008 deaths. Everything in moderation: A 2002 longitudinal study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal concluded that "marijuana does not have a long-term negative impact on global intelligence", and that "current marijuana use had a negative effect on global IQ score only in subjects who smoked 5 or more joints per week." The study, which monitored subjects since birth, examined IQ scores before, during and after cessation of regular marijuana use. It found current light users and former users showed average IQ gains of 5.8 and 3.5 respectively, compared to an IQ gain of 2.6 for those who had never used cannabis. The study did however show an average IQ decrease of 4.1 for heavy users.

I myself support the legalization of marijuana for the facts that it is truly good for all sorts of medicinal uses. On top of that take a look at the overpopulation in jails today do to marijuana, not int. to sale but the people with possession charges. If you get caught with a little blunt you have to pay a 700 dollar fine to bond out , get put on 6months probation in which you have to pay for, and have to take drug classes. You may look at it as if marijuana was legal it would just make things worse because drug dealers would start selling harder and more dangerous drugs in the community but the truth to be told is that harder drugs are being pumped into the community everyday with or without the legalization of marijuana.

The government needs to do a better job at convincing the American voters if they want to continue on with this failed prohibition of marijuana. They claim that the 'plant' is dangerous and deadly, yet they can't provide any proof or credible evidence to back these claims up. I personally have done ALOT of drugs in my life and I can atest to the fact weed other than the smoking itself isn't that harmful, but as a recovering addict I can say yes it is a gateway drug and yes it does degrade society...I simply don't want to take my children to school every morning with 50% of everyone driving around me smoking blunts and doin charges...that part is where it isn't safe, that's the reality of it...and yes people do it with alcohol and yes it's legal but I don't think simply allowing one legal because of another is responsible...
