I guess I dont see the point... If im speeding, i get pulled over, i dont speak english, i have no licence, and its not ok to ask for papers at that point? I really dont understand. Maybe a lot of folks are worried that this law targets a group of people.... it does... I dont understand why is such a bad law... I can see if its abused by a racist cop pulling over everyone who happens to look mexican. The law doesnt say.." if you look mexican we will pull you over and ask for your papers" it says if you break the law, we are allowed to id you... the same law goes for me... a white ohioian woman if i dont have my licence i have to provide some sort of id at some point... What makes you think that because im white i dont identify with being a minority????!!! Having different colored skin doesnt mean i dont know what its like to be cast out, or picked on... what if im gay... is that minority enough? what if i was in south central la, i would be considered a minority. This is about more then just skin color, why is it made out to be so racist? Why do you dodge my perfectly honest question? Why does this law bother you? If the people coming across that border were irish... would you feel different? Im asking not trying to insult anyone

because this touches a nerve in the Hispanic and Black community that dates back to the beginning of U.S. history... when Blacks had to carry papers to verify if they were slaves or not, to segregation and a separation of class, all of that.

I agree that must have been a very hard time for those people in that time. However Americans are not enslaving mexicans, we are simply trying to enforce some kind of order in a place that is obvioulsy having major problems with dangerous people crossing the borders. This law protects American citizens, It does not infringe one anyones human rights. Where can we read the law? I hate relying on a spin..... a FOX news or Obama's thoughts... I just feel like its being blown out of porportion. The law does not say you must always have your papers... You must be doing something illegal. If you are legit... it shouldnt matter. RAce is being used as an excuse in this matter and i would feel offended if my ancestors had to go through something so dispicable as slavery and to see this situation be even remotely compared. Its not about class poor or rich its about coming to america to be american. To have pride the effort it took to bring your family here for a dream.... not about how to dodge the laws and collect as much as possible and not pay taxes such as you and I do to make our country free and able to sustain its people. I say this with as much respect as possible because i am neither hispanic nor am i black.

You are right when someone who cannot produce a valid driver's license when ticketed for speeding should be pulled off the road.

That is the state's power. If it is found during the course of an investigation of a crime that someone is an illegal, they should be turned over immediately to the federal government. Herein lie why I do not like this law: a state is assuming federal powers. Individual states DO NOT have the power to define American citizenship. That is a federal power. If we grant a state the power to determine that they can impose federal-level laws, then we grant them the power to oppose federal law.

Additionally, if states have power to oppose federal law, they have the power to succeed. Do you want to take a step in that direction and start another crack in the foundation of this country?

Leave immigration enforcement at the federal level.

AZ is only enforcing the law!!! This is no different then suspecting someone of robbing a bank or running a traffic light. They are breaking our law by being here! The American people are tired of being asked to support people that do not belong here. Soon we will be asked to put them on the new Health Care system.

We're getting there....felt the full brunt visiting
the Rio Grand Valley area. But I'll bet illegals in
the Valley area feel more free discriminating against people
in the U.S. than actually living in the "bigotry-free"
society that they just left.
And what ARE Mexico's immigration laws, anyway?

Most blacks say that they want to be considered just Americans so why can't they move on beyond what happened to there forefathers? Most of us have something in our history that was not pleasant such as the Jews and the Indians. There are things during wars that were awful.Do they hold this against all the American people? The blacks need to move on and quit using this as an excuse for everything that goes on in this country. And do you not think that we have a big separation of class now? Not because of race but because of financial. That is why Obama wants to spread the wealth. Take from what is left of the middle class and give to the poor that has never worked and does not have to as long as we are supporting them. Where do you think the money for the new health care system is coming from?

All states need this law. Arizona is just smarter than most. They aren't putting up with immigrates trying to take over and the goverment backing them.
If they are here and have paper they shouldn't mind showing them.
