Another entitlement program which will only benefit the so-called "poor" and the middle-class will not be able to afford... does not propose real malpractice reform... takes away from the elderly...

Actually, universal health care is a misnomer. It really should be called CRACK care. Not an appealing name but more accurate. The so-called "poor" already have health care. Better health care, I might add than what I have with both myself and my husband working. Blue Cross/Blue Shield (two policies -- his and mine) does not cover our family as well as we would be if we were none working and I was on TANF which carries Medicaid. The elderly already have health care. My mother worked for years (taught school) and has retirement insurance and Medicare. Again better than what I have. Children have CHIPS.

Those individuals in the CRACKS don't have coverage. For instance, my co-worker has a son who just finished college. Got a good job -- a contract position. His birthday is approaching and she can no longer cover him on her insurance. He falls through the cracks. Another coworker has a new baby. Husband been in a stable job for over 10 yrs. as a mail carrier. The postal service carries him as a part timer so they don't give him insurance. He has good income but no benefits. She has the health care so she cannot say home with the new baby because they would fall through the crack. My brother-in-law is self employed -- small business. He has great income allowing his wife to stay at home. He has insurance for himself and handful of employees (under 10) but the deductible is so high they typically delay seeking medical care for routine or minor things. My niece recently had a minor injury which they treated at home with over the counter products. She got a staph infection and now may lose a digit. They now are spending big bucks on out of coverage specialists because those covered by their policy want to amputate the finger of a 9 yr. old. If he had stay in his previous job with a group plan with low deductible and his wife continued to work, this may not have happened but you have to "chase the dream", right?

I don't know the solution, but there are many, many examples of good people who are hurting for any coverage or better coverage that find it cost prohibitive to get it. The young folks roll the dice, thinking they won't get sick. Others have so much college loan debt, the really can't afford it. They are not poor nor lazy but at great risk for costing you and me major league when they walk into the local indigent care designated hospital or God forbid, the trama center from an accident and they RECEIVE care and no insurance companies pays -- we do.

In 2000, my mother spent 11 days in ICU. She had health care. I saw the bill.$68,000. Where would that money come from if she didn't have it? She still would have received the treatment.

Maybe all the proposed plans currently out there stink. I don't know. I haven't read them. I don't let EITHER side tell me what they say anymore than I allow my pastor to tell me what the Bible says, I read that for myself. What I am certain of is that SOMETHING needs to happen and sooner rather than later.

We have one of the best healthcare systems in the world. We need less government involvement and regulation in our lives not more. Healthcare would become harder to get and the quality would go way down with Obama's plan.

We already have free health care just ask all the illegal and other immigrates that are here in this country as well as our citizens that have medicaid. There is such abuse in this country when it comes to this subject. I am an ER nurse and I contend that if we just got rid of illegals and allow only those into this country that can support themselves and their families without assistance that would take care of alot of our problems. Then there are plenty of those that are citizens that won't take responsility for their own decisions when it comes to childbearing. One baby after the other all many of whom have different last names yet no way to support them but these moms and dads all have cigarettes, cell phones, fake nails and stylish clothes and cars. Then complain when they have to spend their $ on meds that are on the $4 list at Walmart. Everyone has such a sense of entitlement... What a MESS!!!

The latest Pelosi bill supposedly would cover 36 to 44 million uninsured. If that is the purpose you could provide each with one to two million dollars for health care and save the billions this plan would cost. This is just an attempt to force socialized health care on America.

The government has no business in controlling health care decisions for all of America when it can't even run the post office efficiently..nor anything else it's tried to control. This one be just another step toward socialism which is just around the corner.

#1 we cannot afford the cost #2 we cannot afford a government-run health care system because they have yet to establish they can run any government program without it going bust...and taking us down with them. No where in the Constitution does it say the government should provide health care for its citizens. That is the responsibility of each one of us. If you can't afford health insurance, you will never be turned away from receiving it. It is the law! We need to get rid of all entitlements, cut the government in half and return to some common sense before we end up in a revolution. The government is trying to reduce us to the substandard living of Europe along with their socialized medicine that is not working. Get real people -!

William, come to the real world.#1 The country could not afford most of the wars we fought (Civil, Spanish-American, WWI, WWII, etc.) We borrowed and Taxed, yes taxed, to cover the costs and made it up in growth over the years. Recently we have just borrowed, and even cut taxes, to fight our wars. The rest of the world will loan us money to cover whatever Congress wants. They know we will pay the interest and that they have a knife at our throat. If you believe the free market business model, then this is OK, we will make it up in growth unless there is an enviornmental disaster or petroleum production peaks.#2 Government projects have a mixed history. Those most successful include the highway system, various social insurance systems (a German invention under Otto von Bismark)including medicare. Most insurance companies require beneficiaries to enroll in medicare when they reach 65. Old folk's medical bills would reduce profits s(and the CEO's bonus) so a government funded dumping ground is required (I'll bet you thought socialists sponsored medicare... not so in the US). The FDIC makes sure your bank account isn't gone if your bank fails (if you keep more than $200,000 in a single account we need to talk). I'll admit that government is subject to considerable waste, after all we need to feed private industry. Lobbying is very cost effective, and is good for companies' bottom line. Lower level government employees will loose their job if they try fight the flow of money to private companies or get fair prices. Still our government is better than most, if you make enough noise and are unruly the Congress will listen, in some countries the secret police visit you at 2AM. Your comment would be sufficient to get a visit in many countries. So we have it bad, but it could be so much worse.

Tyler is my hometown and I was very proud when I saw the vote results. Healthcare is just another broken promise. No one even knows what's in the bills, how can they vote on them? I think all bills need to be read in their entirety on both the House and Senate floors including all amendments, with madatory attendance imposed on all. That is the only way to ensure everyone knows what they are voting for, and may go a long way to ensure that these bills aren't so enormous.
Can anyone say that they know and understand what the House and Senate bills contain?
