I'd support a public option that is totally self sufficient; ie, is not paid for by taxpayers, but instead is sustained by the premiums collected by those enrolled in it. You know, as in private insurance. The private insurers don't have to go out and borrow a trillion dollars to run their business.

Obama and his merry band of redistributors keep saying they are going to leverage the awesome efficiency of the government to remove waste and fraud from healthcare. So if government is so great, and better than the private insurers, then the government plan should at least be able to run the same way, as a self sustaining project. Heck, the government plan won't have to pay any taxes, that's a huge advantage right there. Its "non profit".

So, it should do just as well as private non profits, like Kaiser, right?

I just don't want to be buying healthcare for someone else. I only want to pay for what *I* need. Just like I don't want to pay for other people's food, houses, or cars. I have enough trouble paying my own bills. I don't need to be burdened paying someone else's.

I think you'll find that's why most people oppose the public option. There is also the possibility that since the government plan is not playing on an even field, that it will put private insurance out of business. I mean, if I run a business and you come along and compete with me, but you pay no taxes AND you get a trillion dollars in capital on top of that, how am I supposed to compete with you? You have lower costs and more money. Its like mom and pop store going up against Walmart. And is the cheap shit at Walmart as nice as the cool, handmade, boutique products at the mom and pop shop? We all know its not, right?

So those are a couple of the fears. I think a public option that pays for itself and doesn't take money out of anyone's pocket is a fine idea, bring it on.

But the plans proposed so far, are massive boondoggles, and they raise costs on everyone who already has insurance. Not acceptable.

one more thing to be taxed on, one more thing that the government gets it teeth into and makes it worse than it already is, one more step towards big brother - socialism is not the principle that America was founded on!
