The current health care system is flawed. I agree with that. But the current proposal is overkill. The government needs to stay out of the private sector. If they allow insurance companies to compete across state lines, and if individuals were able to choose their coverage instead of companies choosing for them, that would solve a lot of problems. We need to focus on personal responsibility. If people don't work, they shouldn't be able to reap the benefits of those that do.

You do have a good point in that insurance companies should be able to compete across state lines. But if employers don't choose the plans, why should they have to pay for it?

Also, ERs are required by law to render care no matter the patient's ability to pay. The uninsured are a drain on the insured. It's not them "reaping the benefits" it's you paying the difference.

Also there is no transparency in healthcare as a market. How much does bypass surgery cost? Well, it depends. Where do you live, what kind, if any, of insurance do you have, are you healthy (complications)...?

The government cannot run ANYTHING correctly. Why would I want them running healthcare?

...ok, so the Topix poll basically says that basically 2/3 of the population oppose the plan...so why are our representatives passing it? I don't like how Washington is starting to think that they "know better" than the rest of us. If their plan is so wonderful, they can participate also. If they were really out to represent us, they can stop voting themselves raises. I'm sorry, but someone making over $175,000 a year (plus travel and meals being provided by lobbyists and the taxpayers) doesn't need a flipping $5,000 "cost of living" raise EVERY year! Our "representatives" have stopped listening to the will of the people. Washington does not know best, because they aren't in our situations. Most of them have never been. What looks good on paper doesn't always work out here in the real world. They've screwed up Social Security, they've screwed up education, the postal service is losing millions of dollars every year, and we want these people in charge of health care?? SERIOUSLY?

If people were able to compete across state lines, and if there were some regulations made as far as pre-existing conditions and malpractice suits (yes, people...over half of a doctor's paycheck goes to paying for malpractice insurance...), that would drive not only health care costs down, but health insurance costs down as well.
