You cannot legislate human behavior, you can penalize the guilty but to think you can control adult behavior by restricting ownership of inanimate objects is ridiculous. A person bent on doing wrong will do so by whatever means available.
We need to focus on the reality it is the "PERSON "not the which is the problem .I suspect as the story s, there will be evidence the mental state of this individual will prove to be the issue & that a number of people were aware he was a loose cannon but nothing was done about him or warned authorities of the danger..
People try to blame in this case the gun or shooting activities in general ....it is very telling a gun club he attempted to join REJECTED him due to his bizarre behavior.
I would think the fact this club who had no prior knowledge of him was able to correctly deduce he was a problem should raise a red flag as to why those around him, family , friends, schools or work place did not notice his mental state.

comment correction update.....
Paragraph #2 should read .....We need to focus on the reality it is the person not the instrument which is the problem. I suspect as the story unfolds, there will be evidence the mental state of this individual will prove to be the issue & a number of people were aware he was a loose cannon but nothing was done about him or warned the authorities of the danger.

Sorry about the typo!

Enforce the laws we have. Punish the criminals. If we outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns.

NO NO NO! you think a new gun law will stop a criminal from getting a gun? the more guns in the hands of the citizens legally allowed and trained how to use them protects us, not the police or the government. When was the last time you witnessed a police officer STOPPING a crime? the supreme court even ruled police have NO OBLIGATION WHAT-SO-EVER to protect you! this is a political driven agenda to dis-arm us, do not stand by and let them, once the bans begin they will NEVER be lifted.

I think things are fine. This is what the founding fathers had in mind with the Second Amendment. We need gun laws that allow a psycho to go down to the corner Gander Mountain or Walmart, purchase a semi-automatic weapon with a 100 round clip, along with 6,000 bullets, and a couple of Glocks for good measure, then use tear gas (where do you get that, Sam's Club) to stun and paralyze a theater full of innocent civilians and then gun them down. Oh, but wait, terrible Ted Nugent says the AR-15 is a hunting rifle. Sure, just like an AK47 is for shooting skeet! Please, you want a hunting rifle for sport, or a handgun for protection, fine. But who really needs an assault rifle with a 100 round clip, except someone like this guy.

This nut job had numerous gallons of gasoline in his apartment ready to kill other residents and law enforcement showing up to collect evidence so why aren't we talking about the need to regulate gas sales, if it can only save one life. Common folks think!!! 500,000 plus million guns didn't kill or injure anyone today.

Check out the firepower they just found at Neil Edwin Prescott's house. Thanks God he was able to exercise his Second Amendment rights to own multiple automatic weapons. And I'll bet it turn out all were purchased legally.

Good Point Tim B. Maybe there may have been less innocent lives lost. So now when I get the wife and kids ready to go watch a movie, I need to make sure I have enough money for overpriced popcorn and that my gun is loaded and that I have an extra clip of ammo because some lunatic might burst in with his assault rifle and start shooting. If we need to arm ourselves to go watch a movie, I better get my own assualt rifle and 100 bullet clip so I can shoot it out with a comparable weapon. My only point here is can't we live without assault weapons and 100 round clips being available at the local sports store? I am all for the pistol in the house and the hunting rifle, but why does an American need an assault rifle??? Do people really go wabbit hunting with AK47s and AR15s?

You're absolutely right, if ten or fiifteen or twenty of those theater patrons were all firing in the dark I'm sure many lives would have been saved. Anybody with a brain could figure that out.

To say that regulating the sale and ownership of firearms would not hinder the possession of them by criminals is just ridiculous.
The process of owning a firearm and the right to use it should be exactly the same as owning a car with the right to drive it.
Gun violence will plague American society as long as gun enthusiast refuse to be inconvenienced by regulations and their "God" given right to own them.

Are you serious?
Government:
noun
1. the political direction and control exercised over the actions of the members, citizens, or inhabitants of communities, societies, and states; direction of the affairs of a state, community, etc.; political administration: Government is necessary to the existence of civilized society.

Any of this sound familiar to you? Do we not have legislation to control drugs, driving, "vehicle ownership", alcohol, violent "behavior", marriage, sex, reproduction, voting, chemicals, sales and service, etc..........
Your statement is purely ridiculous.

Then I have the right to own bombs and chemical warfare agents. Because we are a free people.

With sale restrictions in affect how will criminals get them?? What new law would prevent a citizen like yourself from owning a gun? Just curious.
