Today's Defensive Gun Use

Police: Homeowner shoots intruder

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Louisville Metro Police said a teenager was shot by a homeowner in west Louisville during an attempted break-in.
The shooting happened just before 10 a.m. Monday in the 400 block 38th Street.
Police are investigating the shooting after the intruder was rushed into surgery at University Hospital. Police said he's expected to be OK.

Some homeowners sounded off on whether they thought the shooting was justified.

"I feel like he was justified for doing it, right, because he was trying to break in. It's his home, not nobody else's," said neighbor Lerenza Jones.

"I'm OK with it. He's not a violent guy. He works for the city. He's not a felon," said neighbor Sasha Sloan.

Police said the homeowner heard a loud crash and then noticed he had a broken window.

Police said it appeared the intruder made it only halfway through the window when he was shot in the arm.

"As one would expect, the homeowner is in distress. The homeowner is upset. The homeowner doesn't want to be in this position," said LMPD Detective Derrick Leachman.

Police said the man told them he fired in self-defense.

Today's Defensive Gun Use

Homeowner shoots intruder who breaks into his Bedford Heights home.

BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio - Bedford Heights police Detective Kenneth Hatcher said a homeowner shot a man with a 45 caliber handgun who broke into his house on Mardale Avenue around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

It all began, detectives said, when the burglar tried unsuccessfully breaking into a neighbor's house. A man next door heard commotion and looked out his window to see what was going on and called 911. That's when detectives said the burglar smashed some flower pots then smashed his way through a front window in the 5300 block of Mardale Avenue and crawled in.

The homeowner can be heard on the 911 call telling the burglar to leave and get out of his house or he'll "blow his head off." The suspect wouldn't listen and instead began rummaging through a drawer and grabbed a knife, police said. Fearing for his life, the homeowner grabbed a gun and shot the suspect once in the torso.

I bought a gun last week! It is so cool. The Constitution says I'm allowed to shoot people but I could not find anybody to shoot, as I sat in my living room waiting for somebody. Darn it! Luckily, I had this new gun and I went down to the Atlas Walk in Gainesville and kidnapped someone (that is CONSTITUTIONAL!). I forced the guy to break in to my house, then I screamed, "LAY OFF MY GUNS!!!" Then I shot him. Shot him dead, the dirty son of a bitch. Then I called my congressman and screamed, "THEY'RE TRYING TO CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION!! THATS UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!" And he said, "yeah?" And I said, "YEAH!" And then he said, "YEAH!" And then I screamed, "LAY OFF MY GUNS!!" And then he screamed, "CONSTITUTION!!" Then I shot a baby. AWESOME!

I've finally found out why gun control hasn't made any headway in decades. Thank you very very much. I'll buy you a megaphone if you need one - there's another occupy something coming up again, you will totally have that crowd chanting for more.

I sure hope you don't buy any sharp objects like a knife or anything poison or matches. If you become a killer just by having something in your possession that can kill you need to be put down like a rabid dog. Please go to your local vet and have him give you the shot before you harm anyone else.

God bless my Mama for disowning me. Save my life. Cause Mama was a gun owner that did what gun owners SHOULD do - she shot people! A lot of people!

One of my earliest memories is from a vacation we took to the beach in Alabama.(Alabama's golden-sand shores were a purty sight for this ole gun totin' Virginny boy). Anywho, we were at McDonald's and she saw a scumbag that was probably going to go to Virginia and rob our house. So Mama shot him. Shot him dead, that son of a bitch.

Did she go to jail? Hell no! You know why? Because the Constitution says you are ALLOWED to shoot people that might travel a ways and break into your house. That's what these red, commie, pinko liberals don't understand! They've never read the Constitution.

As a memorial to my beautiful Mama, I'm gonna go shoot up her grave. FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!

Shows how little you knew of her. She shot the vermin that was attempting to prey on her and her brood. Ironic that you would hold that against her. Did she shoot someone you were rooting for while they were attacking an innocent person?

You didn't tote any guns. Guns make you wet your pants, wring your hands, and sob uncontrollably.

Is that the same Constitution that you say allows you to troll the playground for "fresh meat"?

You shouldn't demean your brethren like that. They don't like to see their names in print.

Hold it against her?!?! Mama was the best damn shot in the county! I was saw her unload a .38 on a school bus. Every shot hit a future home invader! In fact one slug took out two of the little criminals. No sir, I think so much of Mama and her good aim!
