Handguns are essential to the protection of the individual. In those Nations where they have been confiscated, crime has increased, not decreased. This protection is ensured by the 2nd amendment to the Constitution and is our, the People's, guarantee of the ability to defend ourselves against our government should it turn despotic. Every despotic government preceded its crackdown by first disarming the people -- could this be what is happening in our own Nation's Capitol???

They are unnecessary. Shotguns for hunting ok but handguns are for one thing only, the possibility of shooting a person!!

There was a reason for the Second Amendment and the abuses of the current administration illustrate why our founding father felt compelled to add it to the Bill of Rights.

Every qualified person should have the right to own a firearm for protection, hunting, collecting, or target shooting.

Handguns have many uses, most of them benign. Banning guns would take away their use for recreational uses. This makes no sense. The abusive usage of handguns is not an excuse to take them away. Just as the abusive usage of automobiles is not an excuse to take them away.

A gun law doesn't affect a criminal in any way. A gun law only affects a law abiding citizen. "THINK ABOUT IT"!!!

Living in NH you are very naive about handguns. In Jacksonville Fl we have a large Black culture that has no value on human life, and decent Blacks as well as decent Whites need handguns for protection in certain parts of the city. Several older Black people in this city would be dead today if they were without handguns. Criminals would love it if they could prey on unarmed taxpayers. You probably don't believe in the death penality either. Southern folks tend to have different ideas on self protection than many northerners. We normally think criminals should be the shootee instead of the shooter. The death of a criminal is not a loss in our part of the country.

I have a problem with any policy that ends with the word control. Well, except for Government Control.

Our rights aren't terminated quickly. A slew of baby steps is all it takes. Then before you know it, the Poll will be titled: Would you support the elimination of the Bill of Rights?
Slippery slope...

I believe that I am alive today because I fired off a round into my backyard during an out of control drunken brawl that broke out in my home. Seabrook police let off the gang leader who tried to wrestle the gun from me, as well as the woman who came downstairs with an upturned knife and beer bottle threatening to kill. The jury was never allowed to hear about a hundred different convictions by drunken partygoers of Larceny, Attempted Murder, Unarmed Robbery, Animal Cruelty, Assault to Kill, Criminal Mischief, Witness Threatening, and two dozen Assault & Battery convictions and outstanding warrants. Witnesses all testified that it was well lit, that the backyard lights were all on, that I was sober and responsible, yet the prosecutor at RCAO claimed that I was drunk, that things were safe, and that it was too dark for me to see anything.
