These states all have constitutional amendments banning same sex marriage: Hawaii, Alaska, Nevada, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Oregon, Colorado, Tennessee, California, Arizona, Nebraska, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, North Dakota, Louisiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Utah, Kansas, Texas, Alabama, Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Florida, Michigan and Virginia.

Keep marriage between husband and wife, for state's rights.

I can GUARANTEE you without an ounce of doubt that same-sex marriage will soon enough be legal in all 50 states.
Until 1967, in many states it was illegal for a black person to marry a white person. Just because something is the popular opinion, does not mean it's right.

It is plain ignorant and selfish to deny a couple the same rights and protections under the LAW just because you disagree with it personally. It really isn't anyone else's business except for their own.

Since 1995, 29 states have amended their Constitutions to define marriage as husband and wife. Several more states have Defense of Marriage laws passed by legislatures and signed by governors.

I don't think there is anything wrong with homosexuals or homosexuality; gays have always married under the same rules as everyone else. Nobody is being denied any right. We just don't believe in the fictitious "right" to radically redefine a fundamental social institution like marriage to satisfy sexual predilection.

Marriage is a public act, keeping marriage between husband and wife is EVERYBODY'S business. Keep marriage husband and wife for the gays, they were all born of heterosexual union.

BTW, Mississippi has amended its Constitution to define marriage as man and wife. Where do you find 'couple's rights'? I know the Constitution describes individual rights but I've never heard of a 'couple's right'.

Interracial marriage was banned by Federal law. Very few states had miscegenation laws. I think the reason they bring up race issues is the desire to call their opponents 'bigots' and equate them with racists. That way, they don't have to justify their desire to radically redefine marriage or deal with the consequences.

It does not matter that there are constitutional amendments. Those laws will be overturned in my lifetime. People's minds are changing rapidly on this issue.

When I mentioned rights given to married couples, I was referring to the 1138 rights and protections ranging from tax exemptions to hospital visitations.

More states are protecting marriage, the California Constiutional ban on same sex marriage is under judicial review.

Well, frankly, no one is asking you. I honestly don't care what you think. And I think it's outright un-American and DISGUSTING that some people are denied rights and federal protections just other people like you think they shouldn't get them.

It has always been a basic tenet of governments to promote and protect those practices that help to ensure the survival of those civilizations. It is an undeniable fact that it takes a man and a woman to produce offspring. It is an undeniable fact that the family unit is the basic unit of ALL civilizations...from cave man to modern man. It is in the government's interest to create a legal framework in which these undeniable truths can flourish. "Marriage" is that framework. If you're going to procreate...you get the benefits of marriage. As far as homosexual couples are concerned, it may be appropriate to recognize "legal unions" of some sort, since there are undeniable benefits for those individuals living in a family unit; however, that family will NEVER be capable of regenerating itself. Therefore, there should be a distinction between the two options, and the family unit that ensures that the civilization survives should get the most benefit from the arrangement.
