Marriage is a legal contract between two persons. Churches(religions) conduct their own ceremonies based on their beliefs. As far as the country goes, it is a legal status and nothing else and is everyone right to marry. Churches are their own entities and they can do what they want. If they want to discriminate against whoever, they can and thus, they can refuse to carry out the ceremony is they so choose. The Marriage name is not copyrighted by religions/churches.

Please wait...
It is a human rights issue, and it is silly that this is even a debate. Everybody should have the right to marry the person they love, as long as that person meets the other reasonable requirements (like not being married to somebody else). We live in a country that is supposed to separate church and state. If a particular church/congregation doesn't want to marry them, that is their right. That is already their right. The state should be allowed to marry whomever meets the qualifications.

county compliments wrote: the bible tells us how it should be. Really.... well the Bible tells us divorce is not "legal".... unless infidelity is involved... yet we allow that..... If someone is divorced, for non infidelity reasons... we allow them to remarry.... again against the bible and even again Jesus's teachings..... so when are you going to legislate agaisnt that? Oh ya one more thing.... we are not a theocracy... so what you believe your bible says does not matter in cases of the law....
