It's only sacred in the Catholic church where it is a "sacrement." And not everyone is Catholic.
This will not force the Catholic church to "marry" anyone they choose not to. They've done that forever anyway and no one has ever forced them to change their practices.
Tell me how sacred is when you folks can't stay married anyway.

I don't know who you are talking to I have been married to the same woman for almost 12 years and plan to stay married to her as long as we live. It may not be sacred to you but it is to all Christian religions I know of and I believe it to be among other religions also. The sacraments you speak of are only in the Catholic church but there are things outside the sacraments that are still sacred.

as long as folks are willing to pay the extra $$ for same sex couples in the benefits area ... costing large companies extra expenses ... I don't see that it matters much ... as long as they don't bother folks ...

Large companies and small companies were not forced to pay the extra money for married heterosexual couples they did it on their own as a benefit. Not many are against gays having the same rights through a civil union must most are against gay being married. Many feel that gays will ruin marriage by perverting it. Or perhaps they are afraid that they will ruin marriage in the same way they ruined the word gay? After all it used to be a word one could use to describe so many nice things but tell someone now that you had a gay old time and they will look at you strange.

Marriage is a religious institution and always has been. It is supposed to be between a man and a woman and not two members of the same sex. This is to all of the homosexuals out there, leave marriage alone and try to get your agendas accomplished through some other means. Some questions that I have are: If two gay men are allowed to marry and eventually adopt a child, who gets the child and who pays support when the marriage ends and the same for two gay women?

Marriage may have started out religious, but to so many people nowadays, religion has nothing to do with it. There are straight couples getting married who aren't religious. Are you kidding me? One: Marriage is NOT ONLY FOR RELIGIOUS PEOPLE. Like I said, hundreds of thousands of couples get married who do not associate with any religion whatsoever. To say that marriage is a religious institution is to say that only religious people should marry. Two: You're really using that question as an argument against gay marriage? Straight couples divorce ALL THE TIME. How ever would a gay couple who happened to get a divorce figure all this stuff out? Oh I don't know; Maybe the same way a straight couple who get a divorce would.

So small government (which means small government control in our daily lives) isn't an important issue to you? Or how about freedom of religion, if there is one religious institution out there that believes gay marriage is ok, then you walking all over their rights. Gay marriage has nothing to do with Gay marriage, it has everything to do freedom from government control.

Everyone should have the basic right to marry the person of their choice. It is up to religions as to whether they will sanction or perform marriages of whatever sort, but when it comes to the state, everyone should be treated equally.
