It's a contract, ffs.
You bring up a good point. For all the drama each side is generating, it is basically simply a legal contract.

People who see it as something holy are free to find a church, synagogue or other religious venue that will marry them. Doesn't matter if they are gay or straight. For those who just want the legality, unfortunately in most States that isn't possible for gays and lesbians. Heterosexuals can go to the Justice of the peace or other non religious venues; that isn't possible for gays and lesbians. Which illustrates that our government is playing favorites with religion and is in fact discriminating against Churches and their members who DO sanction same sex marriage.

So much for the "religious freedom" claim used so often by the anti gay industry and it's supporters.

I happen to be a Christian. And gay. My Church MARRIES people like me. But the government will only recognize the union of heterosexual members of my church.

Some may say, well civil unions, domestic partnerships. I respond with a simple question. Why do you need a system of separate but equal that isn't really even equal? Civil Unions and Domestic partnerships have no meaning on the Federal level and rarely have legal standing in other States.

"MARRIAGE" means the same to me as it does heterosexuals. A commitment of love and fidelity before God and country.

Call it a sin, if you want but I'm a Homosexual male, and I'll never let you bring me down, because 9 times out of 10 I will be more successful than you! And this is why our nation as a whole can not move forward in to the future because of ignorant people like you. Also, I haven't heard of one person being smiting by god for being a homosexual. OH and Half of you are committing sins as we speak so DO NOT judge me on who I prefer to be with at the end of the day.

copy of e-mail sent to Senator Mary Margaret of Washington State

TO: Senator Mary Margaret Haugen
FROM: Mr. D**** F****
STREET ADDRESS:***** Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33304 EMAIL:***** PHONE:***-***-*
BILL: 6239 (For)
SUBJECT: My Thanks
MESSAGE:

Dear Sen. Haugen,
Though I am not a resident of your State, I feel it's important to convey my feelings to you. Thank you for deciding to support Sen. Bill 6239, which would bring marriage equality to same sex couples in your State. From news reports I've read, it appears that it was the rhetoric and hate of the anti gay folks testifying, particularly comments by Rev Ken Hutcherson of Antioch Bible Church that convinced you to reverse your previous stance.

Our States and Nation need leaders like you, willing to listen, process and then decide on issues in the context of our U.S. Constitution, even if they conflict with Party Ideology and even previously held personal views. Your courage in this is to be commended. You constituents should be proud to have someone like you representing them.

Please feel free to share this note whenever you want. After Harvey Milk won election back in the '70's, I was one of those "voices quite young" who called and told him "Thank-You". So I see it as my duty as an American Citizen who happens to be both Christian and gay, to say thank you to you as well. Your actions bring hope to hundreds of thousands, gay and straight, both in your State and the Nation

Most Sincerely and Respectfully,

D**** N. F****

in brief, it's sin...not a sin to have such tendencies, but to engage in them...not that I look down on people for it, one of my house mates is gay...but to say it is ok would be analogous to me saying it's ok for me to blame others when I get angry, which is my tendency to want to do

If you are trying to go against your tendencies, be they gay, angry, or whatever, or have tried in the past, you have my prayers and sympathy...if you would like to talk (not flame or troll...)I don't think it'd be too very hard to find me from my given username, but not going to post my email, for all the flaming I can expect

You remind me of a few family members. They too believe I live in sin. Yet they are often oblivious to their own and then wonder why I don't trust them and many others try to avoid them as much as possible.

I spent years trying to live up to their standards only to be constantly stabbed in the back by them and their gossip.

They love to preach and point fingers but seldom are they actually kind to the least of their brethren.

I don't know you personally so I could be very wrong about you and actually hope I am.

I am 100% straight but I am crying reading some of the comments. All of you people that are opposing are so hateful and awful people. Gay marriage is in no way similar to incestuous marriages or polygamy. It's called PROGRESS and these people deserve human rights. Considering the divorce rate in marriage between a man and a woman, I don't know how any of you can try and defend the purity of a heterosexual marriage. I cannot wait until this generation is in power and can push past all of these people stuck in the past of racism and sexism so we can do the right thing for everyone.

To say that the sanctity of marriage would be ruined by allowing gay marriage is a crock. There are plenty of straight unions that have already destroyed it already. Love is love but even more, to deny the rights of gay marriage is denying the right of health care and I've known adoptions not to happen because the couple was of the same sex.

This was the "plum in the pudding" from the 9th Circuit on Perry v Brown ...

" ... through the Proponents of Ballot Measures, the People of California must be allowed to defend in Federal Courts, including on Appeal, the validity of their use of the Initiative power. Here, however, their defense fails on the merits. The People may not employ the Initiative power to single out a disfavored group for unequal treatment and strip them, without a legitimate justification, of a right as important as the Right to marry. Accordingly, we affirm the Judgment of the District Court ... "

He needs to unbless america already and start blessing the rest of the world. It's not impossible to give glory aswell as take it in the buttox.. but hay, it's SUPPOSEDLY a sin to divorse, so why not go the right path and not marry in the first place. all in all the pourpse is to be one flesh, and there's only one right marriage that creates a single flesh. das right, be fag, be glorious in his eyes even.. just you'll NEVER be married in his sight.. only in the eyes of the government.
