This is a legal matter and not allowing marriages if they are same sex is usually a religious derived. In that case I would like to invoke separation of church and state. Which in my mind since this is a religious motive to keep gay people from marrying, the state should reject any laws that are against same sex marriages. Keep churches out of politics and the state should not be enforcing one way or the other.
