OK with gay couples having same medical benefits as straight couples. But marriage is a religious union and should be between a man and woman.

Gee, you can see how uneducated and ignorant people are. Marriage is a religious sanction my ass. Atheists get married all the time. If one can't marry who they love, that is taking away something so special, so valuable, and so important to that person. Who has the right to sit there and say you can't marry the one you love. If a man was told that about a woman we wanted to marry, that would cause a huge commotion. If you don't want to have a gay marriage, don't. But if they want to wed, let them. Are they directly bothering you? I think not. Grow out of your little hole and realize it is 2010, the world is changing and for America to say we are so free and open, we prove that wrong in so many ways. This being one of them.

Who am I to judge others? People should be free to marry the person they love. Period.

Great, but separation of Church and State gives me the impression that a persons rights should have nothing to do with the religion or lack of they choose to follow. From my understanding of ethical conduct, one would deal with situations in a manner that made the scenario the best for all involved. Taking your personal views out of the situation and seeing all involved as equal. Each person has human rights. Saying that one group should not have these rights is unethical. Freedom of Religion should not only give you the ability to enjoy a religion of your choice, but also free others from persecution of your religious choices. Marriage is about love and how the government treats the couple after this legal binding act. As long as it is of a legal nature in ANY way, it should be available between any two consenting adults regardless of age (beyond consent), race, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, you name it. Justice is blind, and equality should be as well. I want to be judged on my character and my actions, not parts of me I cannot change.
