surely in the 21st century, in the greatest country in the world we should be spending more of our time and effort debating matters which unless agreed upon will cause death and destruction to thousands all over the world. Like how to stop disease spreading in 3rd world countries where hundresd of children are dying every minute, or whether we should be allowed to drive cars when we have proof that we are killing our world, or how we prevent perverts and peadophiles from having access to our children. Does ANYBODY REALLY care about these topics less than whether or not 2 people who love each other choose to committ to that relationship through the social construct of marraige?!?!?! If two people meet and they connect in such a profound way that they want to spend the rest of their lives together - then GO for it! end of debate. lets spend our time and effort debating topics that are truly complex and have no obvious answers.

Marriage is for the union of a man and woman in love. Would you like to put this on the Georgia ballot when obama runs for reelection? Most Georgians think same sex marriage is for sick freaks. I am willing to put it to a vote, how about you?

This is a very enraging topic for me, not because I am gay but because I have some wonderful friends that are in fact gay. I can not comprehend why their rights are not the same as heterosexuals. I do not understand at all how religion keeps coming into this civil rights matter. How can we as a nation, claim to not force religious views on to the citizens but attempt to deny gay individuals the right to marry the one they love? We do not base our laws on whether the Bible, Torah, Koran, etc. say something is correct or not. And before someone throws out 'Thou shall not kill' for an example, these two things are not even close so it holds no merit. Laws are there to protect us as US citizens, how is refusing civil unions or marriages of gay individuals harming us as a society??? I've heard all kinds of reasons...most of which I will list below with a little added logic that show how ridiculous the excuses are.

12 reasons same-sex marriage will ruin society

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control are not natural.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people cannot get legally married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children because straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful, since Britney Spearsís 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and it hasnít changed at all: women are property, Blacks canít marry Whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by the people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are always imposed on the entire country. Thatís why we only have one religion in America.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people makes you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage license.

10. Children can never succeed without both male and female role models at home. Thatís why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we havenít adapted to cars or longer lifespans.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a ďseparate but equalĒ institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages will for gays & lesbians.

The only reason it was bad in the bible was because of the time period.

Back when people died at the drop of a hat it was bad.

That's because the most important thing back in the times of the bible were the number of children you had.
For your Tribe the more the merrier.

Gay people don't naturally have kids. Therefore a tribe with gay people would suffer from less people.

Thus it was considered a "Sin" problem solved.

Now do we have that problem today?

No we don't.

The same chapter that says it is wrong says not to eat pork or shellfish. Yet most have no problem with both of those.

No most people do not think that, but it's really irrelevant.

The majority do not have the right to walk over a minority's rights. Not in the United States or any other first world country. And you can plan on having Marriage Equality in all 50 states within a decade (possibly within a year). You can bank on that.

I believe most people think this is an act of sick freaks and so does an overwhelming number of Georgians. If you are so sure you are right why wouldn't you want it on the ballot so everyone could vote on it? You say it is not relevant, but the large number of Georgians finding the marriage of same sex revolting is why it is not legal in Georgia now. You don't know anything about Georgia politics or else you live in a dream world.

Gamechanger voters do have the right to walk over the perceived rights of minorities ask, dope smokers, crack heads, child molesters, etc. We pass laws to do it all the time. Are you not aware of the laws in Georgia?

Alright, the reason it doesn't belong on any ballot is because the mere act of putting something like the right of Marriage Equality on a ballot is itself, unconstitutional.(See, for example, the Prop 8 Trial.)

Do most people find it "sick" or whatever? Many do. I'll even let you in on a little secret. I happen to be one of them ;) Yeah, you probably thought I was gay didn't you? LOL

However, most people (especially those born after about the late 50's) are extremely aware of the importance of civil rights. The majority do not see things in the way you are describing. In fact no offense but it appears to be more of a Pre-Civil-War mentality that you are describing.

Modern people are very much interested in preserving the rights of others as they would want for themselves.

Drug laws are a different matter that I really don't want to go into right now, unless you really, really want to. To make a long story short they shouldn't be illegal; the reason they are is because of racism of the early 20th century; and they won't be for much longer.

Child molesters are the same as murderers. They harm a person who did not consent to be harmed. That's different from 2 adults consenting to be married to each other.

The "reason" it is not legal right now is the same exact reason Abortion wasn't legal until 1973 and that Interracial Marriage wasn't legal until 1967.

But like both of those, it is about to become legalized in all 50 states. Then each person's right to do as he or she pleases (so long as he/she does not harm any living human who did not consent to be harmed) will be respected.

And I can hardly wait! I'm so glad I'll be alive to see that day. It will be wonderful :D

Within a few more generations, we, as homosapians, should finally be to the point where we truly respect each other's individuality in every way. We're a lot closer than we were 100 years ago, but we ain't there yet!

It shouldn't be put to a vote because the voting public has historically NOT protected the rights of minorities.

lighteredknow.. You obviously know NOTHING about history of voting on things like this. Historically the voting public doesn't stand up for minorities. You yourself are a perfect example. You don't care if people have equal rights. You base you bias on religion, which is against the constitution of the US.(Separation of Church and State) Go read up on some Civics.... Please.. you are embarrassing yourself with you lack of knowledge.

Not to worry, Gay marriage will be the law of the land within the next 5 years. Prop * will be defeated soon, DADT will be won, and DOMA Part 3 will fall in court too. The new SCOTUS will hear the cases and rule in favor of the minorty.
Thank Jeebus that people of Georiga aren't runnign the County - look at the state!
