If farm chores weren't being done by children of farmers they would have to pay outside help, that makes it a job. It needs to be regulated.

Since when are we, as family businesses, legally obligated to create jobs?

never mind, it`s a moot point. Osama Obama has flipflopped on the issue so we don`t have to worry about it.

Not a job, read up on some history of early settlers. Their children helped and did not back talk or half way do their chores in order to get out of having to ever to do them again.

It depends on the job on the farm. If it dos not include power equipment then I see no problem.

But if we allow children to do farm chores then how will we keep immigrants streaming over to do our labor cheaply?

The regulation needs to stop because if you read up on the whole proposal it could make it illegal for them to even use a battery powered flashlight. What next? Maybe your kids can't clean up their rooms due to hazards from daily household products you use to clean. I understand safety but honestly if you love and care for your children you only ask them to do what you feel is appropriate for their age or maturity anyways.

Teaching children that laying in on the video game while Gran-Pa,(guy who established the farm) pays slave labor to Mexicans seems to be the standing rule,so this entire debate is a bit pointless. So really,if one were to fight vigorously to have a legalized thirty-hour work week for children in the field,,,he would likely be too worn down for the fight it would take to get the children out in the field by eight.

Had my son retrieve a chainsaw for me when he was two.Instinct alone seems to keep most children safe,(natures life-jacket).Instinct integrated with instruction qualifies most children for about eighty-percent of farm-work,,,in my opinion.May not want to turn some of the overzealous ones loose with the tobacco knives and spears, but I've seen eight-year old kids that do a pretty good job at keeping the tractor at a good speed as well as a good distance from the cut tobacco.Main thing is,,,some eight year old kids are qualified for nothing more than Sponge-Bob coloring books, while others are qualified to negotiate their own two acre base from Gran-Dad.Problem is,,,parents of dumb kids, are usually dumb parents, and aren't smart enough to use reason, and realize the difference, therefore,Uncle Sam is reasoning for them.
